WTB 1980 Kawasaki kz440 STARTER

I may have one later this week on a pick up I'm doing but the kz400 and kz440 starters are near impossible to find. I had a local shop repair mine before that specializes in them and it ran about $90.00 and they even painted it Kentucky chrome ;D ... Serious though, you'll probably spent close to that for a used one that you have no idea how much longer it will last when you can get a practically new one for $90.00. Find a good local shop that does electrical starters, generators, alternators, etc. Specialists, make no exception... Unless you want to try to rebuild it on your own? That's an option if you feel comfortable doing it. Starter rebuild kits for those kaws are readily available for around $30.00.

Thanks for the info...Yeah its weird how hard they are to find...I thought they made a bunch of these bikes back in the day. I shipped my old one off to be rebuilt and bought a new one for 139 to my door. Im affraid the old one was too far gone, but if its not and can be rebuilt...then I have a back up just in case! Motorcityreman.com is where you can get a new one. Out of Michigan I believe. Thanks again!

Thanks! I actually ordered a new one and rebuilt the old one...good to have a back up...this is my first Kawi and have heard the starters are known to fail pretty often.
