I recently helped a friend swap some parts from his '82 Yamaha XJ 650 to an identical year/model 650 with lower mileage. All the wires are connected as they should be,but the bike will start no matter what position the key is in,and the running motor can't be shut off with the key.The kill switch still functions properly,as do all the lights and the horn. If the bike is running, and the kill switch is used, the motor will stop running, but the instrument lights will remain on until the battery is disconnected. The bike will also start without the key.The ignition switch was swapped out for a known good unit,as was the TCI,voltage regulator, and even the battery...but this problem still exists. The owner installed a new blade style fuse block, and it appears to be installed correctly. There seems to be a back feed of current somewhere, but I can't seem to find the source.
If anyone has any ideas on what may be causing this ,I would love to hear from you!
