XL250, run with no battery?

Hey! I am currently building a 1975 xl250 and I'va stumbled upon this very nice build on pipeburn. I read on the topic that the bike runs on kicker only, no battery. I would really like to do that too, but I just wanted some input on how well this would work. Can I just wire everything to the power generated by the bike?

yeah not sure. being kick only, it runs without a battery ( well mine does..) but being 6v, maybe just use a small battery for headlight etc?

My '79 XL185 starts & runs w/o battery and still powers the (weak by today's standards) headlight just fine. Horn even (quietly) honks! Compare relevant wiring schematics to see how it's done.

Search scooter parts suppliers for 6V stuff ... even some 6V LED stuff out there to keep consumption low.

Alright, well if your 185 runs, I guess mine will be fine too. Anyways, the ignition system doesn't go through the battery(don,t know if that's a common thing) . I guess if i put a switch on the headlight and turn it off when starting the bike it will make it easier. Thanks for the input.
