Been Around the Block
I am having trouble with the rotor (charging system ) on my xs the damn thing keeps going out this is the third one!
windings keep breaking. every thing else looks good.has any one ever had this happen to them ?
motor is not stock putting out 70 hp
ideas any one, or am i just getting crappy ones?
tried mikes xs but he is out and can't give a date when he will get more

google "xs650 banshee alternator" or something like that. There is a guy that has used a modern permanent magnet alternator on his xs650. It is said to work better than stock (not saying much. I fixed my 650 alternator this year too) the best part about the swap is if your battery takes a puke you can still kick start your motorcycle. I have a fzr alternator that i may put on mine this winter.

Id be totally interested in this modification if anyone can figure it out.
Apparently the weakest part of the XS650 is the charging system.. (not to mention the "finding neutral" clutch issues)

I have done this on my xs.

The orginal couldn't keep the tiny battery charged at idle and you could watch the battery voltage drop.

I used a Yamaha Banshee timing plate, Yamaha Banshee Rotor, Honda VF500 stator and Honda VF500 R/R .

Making a whole lot more voltage now. The only prolem is the used R/R that I bought is pooched. Going to invest in a brand new one.

Here is the link at 650 Garage.
