If it don't fit, you're not trying hard enough!
It's a 1979 Yammy XS400 cafe that I've built over the last year or so.

Ok, just to let you all know, I'm not selling this..... yet. Just kinda testing out the waters a little to see what someone would be willing to pay for it. Am shooting for around $4500 with all the extra goodies.

Extras:
Has a spare rebuilt engine ready to go, stock exhaust, spare wheels, original fenders and lights, various spares for brakes and electrical. About 14,000km on the engine in it, 7,300km on the spare engine (original to the frame).

Pics are not of finished product. A few little cosmetic things to go still, but you get the idea.

Re: XS400 cafe

Does 4500$ include a chain ? It's a nice bike but for a sr400 you might want to start lower . You can buy a nice 70s Triumph for that kind of loot.

Re: XS400 cafe

That's kinda what I was thinking...even the nicer XS650s struggle to bring that much. Remember, do this as a hobby, NOT a job!

Re: XS400 cafe

Yes, it has the chain on it now. Smartie. Not an SR400 single, an XS400 twin. I know it's a hobby, and you can get a helluva lot more bike for the same kinda cash. I figure I've dropped about $3500 into it, and likely 1200 or so hours. I know I wouldn't get near $4500 from anybody on this forum, or anybody that is into fixing up old bikes. Gotta find that kid just getting his license looking for a bike, but can't afford to get a crotch rocket (or pay insurance), and still wants a cool bike to ride around. So hypothetically, as a member of the general public, would $4500 be way too much as a starting price? (It's easy to go down, but you'll have a helluva time trying to go up)

650's are nicer (I have one), but they're still pretty easy to find since they made them forever. Not that the XS400 was, or ever will be, a collector's item.

Re: XS400 cafe

OK, resurrecting this from the bowels of the past. It's for sale now for sure. It's gotta go. Will only entertain decent offers as if it doesn't sell this fall, I'll store it for free in my buddy's dad's heated shop and sell it for a lot more in the spring. It's done, and runs, charges, and shifts great. Quite a looker. Draws a crowd when I have it parked on the driveway to make room to work in the garage. Some days I spend more time talking to passersby than actually working. Buy it now and save.

Anything is possible. Do you mean exactly the same? Or just kinda close, or something completely different?

Ok guys, just bought a trailer today. Might be a little more likely to negotiate on a price. Anybody offering?

Typically I pay about 2$/cc for a running bike.

My current 79 KZ650 - 600$ needed a rear tire to cert.

My Ex 1985 GPZ900R 1600$ - cert as bot

My 1980 Suzuki TS 125 - 150$ - needed 2hr to get running but no title

My collection of early 70s Honda Cb350s (three of them various states of disrepair) traded for a corner tub I got free.

My 74 CB350-4 - motor turns but no body or title - free

My Suzuki GS550 - titled - runs on two cylinders and has no seat or side covers - 170$

For 4500$ I'd need to be buying something built at least two decades sooner......

I would sling it up on ebay man, there's no way you're going to get your investment back otherwise. Post up some nice pictures and close ups, it looks like you put a lot of time into getting it right, someone will appreciate your craftsmanship!!
