XS650 guys - got a question

Been Around the Block
I'm doing a bit of a top end rebuild on my 77 XS650 and accidentally broke a piston ring...was planning on puttin new rings in anyway, but I was wondering how you can tell if you engine had been bored out by a previous owner or not...I'm assuming it should say somewhere on the pistons weather they are oversized or not, but just wondering exactly where and what to look for??

also...I just checked DirectXS for piston rings and for the stock rings they only have one set (one piston) ,,,DANG! i really wanna get this motor back together soon so I can start re-assembling the beast!

any info greatly appreciated!

cheers - Tunz

Don't know about bikes pistns but on auto mobiles, there will be a number stamped on the piston it self like a .20 .30 .40 depending of how much bigger the pistons are over stock. have you taken the block apart yet? If there is nothing on your pistons then it is very likely it is stock, But to make sure, i would get a set of dial calipers to make sure. Post some photos of your XS :)

I've got a vernier caliper so i can measure it up...just thought they might have somethin stamped on em - I'll give a look next time im in the shop either way

theres a couple pics of my XS in the big arse projects section
