Re: XV920 "Short Bus"
I may as well cop to it.
I have been having issues for some time with high-rpm misfire on my rear cylinder, and after a great deal of troubleshooting, I finally went back to the pickup coils for the ignition.
Now, before I put the bike back together, I grabbed a pickup coil that tested well - the basic procedure is to check resistance across the two pairs of wires for the front and rear cylinders. Generally, pickup failure presents as a misfire at low RPM, so it wasn't on the table...but after everything else was eliminated, I didn't know where else to go.
I pulled the pickup block connector, and was surprised to find zero continuity between pairs of wires. After scratching my head for a while, I asked my wife in dismay if in fact the pairs were correct - red and blue; green and brown.
I had transposed the red and brown wires.
Runs like a bastard now. Ever seen a Virago do a wheelie?
