Yamaha SR Tracker/Brat

Five Miles Out

So I bough a little baby-sized SR - there is absolutely no possible way I can afford a 400/500 here in AUS. I'm looking $5G + for a rustbucket.

This will be a cafe/bobber....Cobber.

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

I bought some new Kawasaki GPX250 dual-disk forks. Will require some manipulation to fit but I think it will work. Forks, brakes, front and rear rims for $120 - can't do much better than that!

Tapered vs straight. I will have to bore out the stock races and cups.

Hmmm....I'll make it work.

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

Tossing up between this and a vintage sportster tank.

Hopefully this won't be too crazy loud for AUS laws.

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

cool little build you've got here.... I just recently gave one of these a home in my basement

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

Pipe's not going to work. I'll get a scrambler pipe bent for me stuffed with baffles - gotta keep the notice within reason.

More updates very soon...

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

Lost my job on the 22nd of December. Merry F'n Christmas. Decided to raw the frame to keep costs down.

New front end from a Yamaha XVS250. Went in with the assistance of original cups and race. Painted DIY with WhiteKnight Enamel spray paint. I think the grey-blue brings out a nice bit of colour.

New headlight, clip-ons (untill I can decide on bars), clutch lever and Oberon bar end indicators.

Mounted a mini speedo.

Without tank.

With tank.

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

Rear Tyres Options:

Duro Median 130/90 x 16 or Firestone ANS 5.00 x 16?

Stock is a 120/90 16. Will the 130 be alright?

Any more details of this swap (I assume the Kawa front end got too $$$)? I have a SR250 I'm trying to turn into a low-budget street tracker but converting to front disk would be nice.

I've had a whole heap of progress recently so I will post up pictures plus pictures of my fork setup. To be honest if you can find an xvs font, mess armond with cups and races and it will go straight in. I'm pretty sure I used everything from the sr fork except star nut.

Kawasaki front end was going to be to expensive and I would have needed to machine brake mounts and build a new spoked wheel.

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

I'm about to buy tires.

I want some chunky dual sport or some Firestone ANS.

Current front tire is 90/90 18. Can anyone suggest a meaty tire? Also what size could I upsize to? Will a 4.0 fit or a 12/90?

Re: Yamaha SR Cafe/Bobber

RE: tires - in saving past posts from other SR250 owners, the consensus seems to be that (with stock wheels) the max size tire is a 100/90-18 front and 130/90-16 rear. When you say "chunky", how off-road are you looking? I've had my eye on a Kenda Enduro 100/90-18 K270 tire for my front like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KENDA-ENDURO-K270-MOTORCYCLE-DUAL-SPORT-TIRE-100-90-18-/230885083803?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35c1d2ca9b&vxp=mtr and a Vee rubber 120/90-16 VRM 163 tire for the rear like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vee-Rubber-120-90-16-VRM-163-Rear-Motorcycle-Tire-Free-Shipping-/390557458366?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5aef09dfbe&vxp=mtr. I also saw another SR250 build that used Pirelli 90/90-18 MT60s on the front and Bridgestone 120/90-16 Trail Wing TW40s on the rear.

Its a Bananna Wassel knock-off If its Japanese.

Not sure where Big Cedar is located, but they make a large range of alloy tanks. It's the same tank from the Deus Major Bloodnok. If anyone is interested I bought it from webike.com, Japanese based online store.
