Yamaha SR250 Brat

your bike would benefit a TON from lowering the forks. it's cheap and easy to do, took me 2 hours to do on my cb750. just buy some progressive rate springs and you'll have a much better looking and handling ride. just my .02, though.

Hey mate, I wanted to do that any way I just wasn't sure how. I was just going to lower were they are clamped in the triple tree. Would that work? My know-how and experience is limited and I'm learning as I go, is this something a beginner could do, cheers.

you could poke them up through the triples, but you've done a nice job thus far, and it would just look like you took the easy way out when it came to the front end. lowering them internally is definitely doable for a beginner. when i said i did it in 2 hours, that was my very first time with no prior knowledge of how it was done. i did it while referencing two really good articles on it. i will try to find them and post the links here for you, they were very helpful. in the meantime, if you're sure you want to do it internally, go on amazon and search for progressive fork springs for your make/model.

BOOM, ordered new jets for my carb. After watching a few YouTube tutorials I recon I have it sorted!
BUT, Does any one know were to get a good quality carb rebuild kit for an sr250?

You could probably get them through Yamaha mate. They made the SR250 until a few years ago, so shouldn't be a problem.

Otherwise a keyster kit off ebay may be alright, just use the new jets you got.

there is a list of vic roads vehicle standards info (vsi) here: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/SafetyAndRules/SaferVehicles/VehicleDesignStandardsAndAccessories/VehicleStandardsInformation.htm

#8 gives you modified vehicle stuff, but the exhaust still has to comply with all applicable laws. technically, it has to have oem or other approval markings giving model and noise output. and be around oem noise levels (so that any reasonable member of the public would think it's normal and not call the cops sort of thing).

practically, you need to ask a tester before you present how they feel about non oem exhaust and all the other stuff. and if they reply in a manner not favourable to you, just look elsewhere. don't insult their intelligence, no one responds well to that. they're just the messenger, and remember the rwc is a legal document that the tester puts their signature on.

technically, there is no way a bike modified like most on this site are will pass a rwc. just no way.

Hey Pockets, Love the build so far.. I just got my own sr250 and was trying to order some air filters but i wasnt sure of the size i need or any good brand.

I have two 35mm copper tubes in the bottom of my forks with 1/4 holes drilled in the top and bottom of them. 15w fork oil wasn't enough. I will go to 20w fork oil next. The front on the SR is ridiculously soft. There is about 1/2 inch showing on my triples and it handles like a sportbike.

Jetting for a pod filter and a short pipe? Main jet - 145 for a packed muffler, 155 maybe for a straight through muffler. 47.5 pilot jet (stock) is fine. Drop the needle down until one ring is showing on the top.

Fine tune from there if you need to.

Sorry I haven't posted in ages, life got in the way!!!

I just ordered new gaskets as their is a few very minor oil leks on my bike I want to fix but can any one recommend or she'd some light on a paste or locktight I can use with the gaskets to ensure I don't leak again??

Also I was thinking while I have the engine apart why not do the piston and valves!! Can anyone recommend a good site on the net to purchase these??

Any help appreciated!
