YSS E-302 Shock Problems

anyone have problems with YSS shocks. Mine seem to have lost all ability to compress (most of the time). Basically I'm riding a rigid bike. can put all my body weight on the rear of the seat and bounce up and down and i get about a 1/4 in of travel...any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex

Have you had them re-built?
From the factory the quality control is iffy at best and terrible at worst

Her's a basic how-to, I put together. And BTW CrazyPJ was a big source for some of the tips included in the process.

No idea how to fix your issue, AMD500. I'd have to see the shocks in person.

For everyone else. YSS does not equal RFY. Notice how YSS doesn't have the letter R, F, or Y in it? YSS is brand of its own.

As for that rebuild tutorial, those SKF oil seals are not meant for pressures over 7psi. Good luck with that once you charge the shocks to 100psi or up.

yeah i was surprised to hear that they are bad quality...but now I see that the previous poster was referring to eBay RFY shocks, vs YSS (generally a well respected shock maker, $299 gas charged shocks). Going to send them back to YSS and get them to replace or rebuild them. Thanks for all the reply's.

RFY shocks can be pretty damn good after a rebuild and some proper tweaking. Don't sell them short. I've seen guys drag knees leaving $1300 Ohlins in the dust. That said, I am not sure how anyone confused YSS with RFY. Two different worlds.

YSS used to be great shocks at the price point, use for racing straight out of the box
IIRC, RFY was the (very) cheap copy?

YSS are still very nice units. YSSUSA.com

RFY is the Chinese knock-off of the ohlins or fox, it's tough to tell which one exactly. Either way, it's a nice knock-off after some work.

Usually the Chinese knock offs are excess capacity of factory with just enough (sometimes) modifications to avoid patent infringement
I don't think all models of YSS shocks are made in USA? (not at the price they sell for)

None of the YSS units are made in the USA. The company is based in Thailand I believe, and I believe that's where they manufacture. These are not knock-offs but "original" designs.
