Yeah, that's the one I meant. Sounds great. Glad the rebuild went well. I have a bunch of KZ650 stuff that I hope to build into a bike oneday.


Keep an eye on the zip tied oil line in between those headers. The heat will break both down in time.

really pretty bike congrats i expected a whoop or 2 ;)
the engine sounds sweet mechanically its always a relief ,eh ?
but that kerker sounds like shit ,its not right and sounds way off and you will loose a lot i mean significant amount of powerridasbility etc from what it needs to be and was designed to be
i mean it doesnt sound like a freshly packed kerker its all 62 corn binder pu with mexican slash pipes sounding :'(
somebody has molested it terribly :-* :-\ :-\
but bitchen bike the muffler is an easy fix

Actually the old chrome kerker pipes looked like that. You are thinking of the newer pipes. The only thing wrong with these is the rust and missing badge.

nope you aint got a smooth core man you got scattered flow and zero ,noise reduction it either needs cleaning, packing and some holes plugged or its fallen apart inside

Show me an example so I understand better. Keep in mind I got big pistons and cams installed. It's going to sound different.

Maybe it's having an identity crisis. I found "Kerker" clearly engraved the mounting bracket of the muffler. But then as I look on the internet I found a Vance & Hines with the same design I have.

now you are sounding quite ill informed, stop that, piston/cams got zero to do with it sounding louder, too loud or like crap all the more reason to fix it

doesnt matter what brand it is either its a neglected,very sick can its an easy fix but you need it now for your tune,jetting and timing

in 1977 i was 20, top machinist and wanted a kerker for my 76 kz1000 nope that shit cost city slicker wages new back then :'(
however the 76 900 i have now has an original kerker and a breathed on heater whoop

This weekend I took the bike for a ride around the block and let her idle in the drive way for a few minutes. Noticed the idle slowly dropping with a little bit of hesitation causing it to almost stall. It idles well at 1,200 RPMS but manual states 900-1000 rpms. I am thinking that I should only need to tweak the Fuel/Air Mixture screw. Last time I checked the carbs were synced but I am going to run through the motions again just to double check everything.

I had another issue with the Vacuum Petcock. Replaced seals and it still leaked. The pressed in fuel joint was shot. Came right out with ease...not good. Order a quality manual petcock replacement and adapter from Pingel. Install looks easy.

The tach is notoriously unreliable in the low end. I would set the idle for whatever seems to make the bike happiest. also depending on how long you let it idle its not too hard to have it overheat and start running like crap.

Not long after a short ride in 40 degree weather. 3-5 mins. I thought it might of been overheating but I rode it a bit more to feel if the engine was bogging down or anything like that.

I've seen some symptoms on my other bike so I'm pretty sure it's not overheating.
