So the other night I had a vision for what I think will be the badest 80s repli racer ever! So to make it happen I am liquidating some items. To keep me comitted I ordered some jewels that will be mandatory to complete the build. Its no cafe but if you all want I will post the build. New items should be here early next week, and I already raised enough capital for the donar bike just need to find one.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

+1!

Post that stuff up! Love 80s racers. Hell I think I love every race style.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Alright so here is what I am going to try. Originaly I was going to go for a street rip off of 1985 rs250

but the donor bike was going to be too pricey and to many extra expences to make it happen. So now I am shooting for mor of a 1983 ns500. Some parts should be here Fri and think I am getting the donor bike Sat. will post when I get it.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

So the quest for the 1983 ns500 repli racer has begun! I picked up a 1985 vf500f in prety rough shape. here she is as I rolled her off of my truck on Saturday.

Here is the new rear wheel, the cooolest thing ever! Have it sitting in my livingroom to look at it.

So got it all stripped down, and frame ready to paint.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Nice start and great choice of donor bike. Just wondering if a NR500 replica might not be more suited to the exhaust note. I had never noticed how much the old VF500 frame looked like a works race bike. The family resemblance is remarkable.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Grrrr. Thanks for reminding me how much I miss my VF1000R....

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Another thread that drives home the point we need a race replica section or sport bike section. This is kind of what I had in mind with my build, but not really based off a production racer, something mechanically like a race bike wannabe for the street. I love this era of motorcycle. The advances in technology, materials, engineering, etc. made the machines very exciting. Hope you stick with this build, I'll be watching with interest.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Thanks for looking all! A nr rep would be a little complex for me. I also agree a race rep thread would be cool, It seems thats the way I am leaning as of late. Painted the frame and some engine stuff today and cleaned some things here and there not a whole lot else. Some pics.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

oh my God oh my God oh my God

Seriously excited for this!

Also, how is it that every update you post is pure friggin gold?!

bob.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

What's your game plan for the bodywork?

My father had a VF 500 he bought a week after I was born in 84 and rode it for about 15 years until he hit a deer with it on the way to work one morning. I think it had about 95K miles on it when that happened. Beautiful machine with a great sound and lovely motor. One of the best handling bikes when it came out. Awesome choice for a build.

Amen to the repli-racer section, SquadraCorse!! I've noticed that the GS and SOHC Honda forums have sections devoted to repli-racers and vintage racing builds and mods. We definitely could use a section like those!!

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

That 1982 nr500 is AWSOME!!!! Thanks for the link, I had never seen one before. I am going to use 1985 rs250 body work the tail should be here mid March. I got a contact from another forum that is going to sell me a front rim so it should come together prety quick.
Thanks ll!

Oooooooooo this will be cool. You've got some sweet inspiration too.

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Watching your build for sure! I have a yami RZ500 sitting in the corner of my garage that will definitely be a race rep. One day, that is!

Re: 80s repli racer for the street

Thanks guys! Biker reject lets see a pic of your rz. So it is all starting to go back together now, everything has been cleaned painted, dont worry those are not the clipons I am using, budget is super tight so I had to buy f1 hurrican clions from ebay.Modifing f2 shock for the rear, forks are rebuilt. Here is were it is at now plus the front wheel came in today, I am smitten with these wheels. Keep hoping the tailsection is going to show up early.
