Anachronism: the heap formerly known as Bitch!!

Re: Bitch!

Sounds good, I'll snap a pic tomorrow for you and if you want it I'll ship it out to you on Monday if thats cool. I have 2 res's, the stock Kat res is rectangular with a cap thats held on with 2 srews, or I have another round plastic res with a screw on cap. I'll take pic's of both for ya.

M357.5: Brutha...you rawk!

Hey Hurley or anyone else with a 450/500T...you interested in a few bits?:

topclamp450500.jpg

Shaved top clamp, skim coat of black paint but very polish-able. the riser bushing holes are bored out to accept the aluminum inserts but I'm probably going to make new ones as I'm not particularly happy with these.
LEDs for turn signals, but switches for whatever could be mounted there too.

brakeplate.jpg

Clean and vented, skim coat of black paint can be polished up nicely. I'd need your plate as a core as I've got a bike that needs a whole wheel but I'm going with disc brakes out back on mine.....

I'll post these and a bunch of other stuff for sale in the next few days....

parts look good man, i might be interested in that rear brake cover. let me see what i come up for with mine, if i decide to ditch it, il let you know.
thanks for the heads up.

and regarding a build off, lol, id lose man, i may be quicker, but yours would probably be at a higher level of custom and have waaay sweeter fab'd up one off's. you got skills brutha!

anach·ro·nism
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈna-krə-ˌni-zəm\
Function: noun
Etymology: probably from Middle Greek anachronismos, from anachronizesthai to be an anachronism, from Late Greek anachronizein to be late, from Greek ana- + chronos time
Date: 1617

1 : an error in chronology; especially : a chronological misplacing of persons, events, objects, or customs in regard to each other
2 : a person or a thing that is chronologically out of place; especially : one from a former age that is incongruous in the present
3 : the state or condition of being chronologically out of place

So I've been trying to decide what to call this thing, not that it needs a name per-say but it IS fun, and a hold over from years in electronics development where every project had some kitschy handle. I chose Anachronism because of what it implies....

I'll drop a few more hints on what's coming for this thing since I'm not actually getting much done today (you're all too effing entertaining).

I've just about got all the details lined up for the fuel injection conversion, though i do have a pair of VM34's on the shelf juuust in case. My system is based on half a throttle body rack (2 of 4) from an R1 with dual injectors and a Microsquirt programmable controller. I'm still looking into fuel pumps but there's lots of options to be had so I'm not too worried about that detail just yet. The Microsquirt is a small footprint and somewhat truncated version of the ubiquitous Megasquirt open source EFI conversion that's extremely flexible. My plan is to run the fuel injection and ignition timing off the ECU just like a modern bike. I'll fire the rig off a shutter wheel probably hung off the flywheel but I'm looking into other options at the moment.
This will require an uprated charging system more than likely though the actual current draw for the whole setup shouldn't be particularly excessive. Just the same I'm looking into options on this and it looks like there are a few. At minimum I'll do a permanent magnet conversion with neodymium magnets and good single stage windings along with a good regulator/rectifier unit and fresh low oxygenation copper wires. I should be able to get away with a fairly dinky battery but I think I'll probably look into a LiPO Lithium Ion or other capable cell.

Coming in as we speak on Ye Ol' UPS truck:
74mm slipper pistons that with some minor machining should yield a targeted 11 to 1 static compression. Actual compression in anger...probably closer to 10-1 with the cams coming from Delta. Nothing too wicked, but close to the edge for the new torsion bars. Honda raced with the torsion bars quite successfully so I'm not too worried about them though there are those that'll honk and wave a hanky about not running coil valve springs...whatever.

Nikasil cylinder plating is the bees knees! Should help with wear and heat score.

Carrillo H-beam rods and a knife edged and welded crank should hold things together as I'll be setting the rev limiter to 10k to start with though I'll more than likely raise that up as the cams, porting (TBD) and compression will support for more revs.

I got a good look at a cr450 head (Team Hansen), specifically the port work and it proved out a few thoughts I'd had regarding the stock head so I'll be going that way. I've ported quite a few engines over the years. I have no choice...granddad kinda set that in motion when I was 8 or 9. I can't NOT do it now. It just yields far too much to leave it off. The trick is to NOT go crazy. Too many guys dig out ports, especially the intakes thinking bigger is better which isn't always the case. If you want to learn piles and piles about the process I highly recommend anything written by Kevin Cameron, he'll smack you in the brain with enough theory, experience and math to make even the smartest out there feel like the 3rd grader on the short bus.

Can't leave a lump like this is shaping up to be with a less that powerful oil system and these twins (450/500T) need a little something extra for the top end to survive so I'm looking into a rotory pump conversion. I've seen the Cappellinimoto pump conversion which is a good one, but many many dollars would be needed to make that happen so I'll probably end up reworking CB750 parts to suit. Doesn't look like it'll be too bad. (famous last words perhaps?)

So there you have just a little more to chew on......

Sounds good, I'm using Megasquirt on our school's SAE SMV project, they're pretty handy and easy enough to tweak. Have you thought about using a hall effect sensor mounted on what formerly was where the points were located? Also are you running a returnless FPR or are your gonna run a return line to the tank somewhere? It sounds awesome at the moment, I'm excited to watch this unfold!

I thought about about taking my pulse off the stock timing location (off the end of the cam) but there's evidence of quite a bit of variation in set between the crank position and the end of the cam. I've nothing to base that on other than others who've actually measured but two or three degrees +/- can a big deal. I *may* run a sensor off the cam and average it with the pulse off the crank similar to the Mistubishi 4G63 or Dodge's Neon lump which I'm pretty versed in. Dunno....I'd like to keep it simple as possible (I know I know...) and I don't want to introduce inaccuracies at a foundation level...going back to cam timing "slop" cited by Hansen I think....it's been a while. Plus, the crank is the best point I can think of to take the basic timing signal.

I imagine I'll run a return from the fuel rail an run an adjustable regulator to keep things as close to (fuel) map-centric as I can.

What engine are you using? I'm more than a little jealous....I woulda killed to get into that program had I the foresight to stay the hell outta electronics..

If you do even half of what you are proposing, this will be awesome. It will be refreshing to see something other than the usual cosmetic mods.

You wouldn't be impressed, SAE gives us a regular Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp engine and it needs to use the stock case after all is said and done. Of course we've sleeved it down from 149cc's to under 50, custom rods, piston, crank, SOHC from a dirt bike, Lambda hook-ups, coustom manufactured TB, CF fairing, Aluminum honeycomb chassis with AB expanding foam held rigid with bamboo supports, lever actuated steering, etc. etc. It survived an accidental crash test when testing out the steering, "pilot" got all crossed up and hit a brick wall at 15-20mph and did nothing.

The Shell competition earlier this year is more liberal engine wise, although they don't like the use of electric fuel pumps, so before we backed out we had a tricked out 4-stroke weed-whacker engine with a pneumatic fuel rig.

With just the chassis, firewall (acting like a sail), and stock engine setup, we were able to easily get a baseline 188 mpg within the max/min speeds, to be competitive, we're going to have to figure out how to get about 5-10X that amount.

Pic for you Swag. Let me know, either or on the res dont matter to me...hell you can have both if you want.

Frankly that sounds pretty damned impressive to me! You mind of I pick your brain at some point......GOT to be smarter than me!

Yeah, Damn Swagger, you've got more tools then a sport bike forum.

ra-tat boom dish!

Thank you! I'll be here all week ;D
Don't know how I missed this one DJ, but that's pretty funny! Thanks mate.......mind if I steal that for a sig line here?

Swagger... You sir are a badass.
I am REALLY looking forward to watching this come together.
Hehe...probably closer to just plain ass....but thanks!

Jeez man! Sit on your ass and your thread falls to the bottom of page 3! Heh...

Well, I got a lovely package this afternoon that I'd been waiting for with much anticipation.
I have some nice contacts in Europe and thru them got a pair of one-off shocks for the build. Take a peek:
sti.jpg

multi speed valving, adjustable damping, rebound and spring pre-load. Adjustable ride height(+/-1"), nitrogen charged 7075 aluminum goodness! I wish a picture could express the sex just oozing out of these! So SO sweet.
I had an 'Uh-oh' moment when I first mashed on one though. First off they are mighty stiff but I also have two more springs, these being the heaviest at 170lb/in. with 145lb/in and 125lb/in options so that'll be ok. The other was that they felt 'sticky' but after cycling the bare shock a few times they are just plain butter smooth now. There's a second set of lower eyes that add 1.25" to the ride height when fully turned into the lower mounts and will add a bit more to the rear right height should I decide I need'm.

If I wasn't so large I'd dance around here like a little girl with a new dolly but .....welll...that'd be scary.
So I wont.

Boo-effing-YAH!!!!!!

Thanks guys. I was incorrect on the spring weights....they're actually 170kg/cm!!! gulp.....no wonder they feel stiff.
