Another CB360 build

decided to go in a different direction. Going with a brat style seat instead of the cafe seat. If the mods want to move this to the brat forum, that is fine with me.
Here is my rear fender- cut and mocked up. Just have to weld some supports and then cut the metal sheet for the seat pan.

thanks, I agree they turned out nice. Total pain in the ass rebuilding them though. That stupid chrome ring that holds the gauges together gave me lots of grief.

Been there done that. You've got more patience than me, haha
 
pulled the needles off. Very easy to do- I just put a fork behind it and gently popped them off.
 
Hmm...cool I woulda never guessed. thanks. Did you spray them w a clearcoat for UV rays protection so they wont fade ? Or are they already coated for that?
 
they are printed with UV resistant ink and Laminated with a UV resistant laminate film to protect them as much as possible. They are made with the same Vinyl they use to wrap vehicles. I'll have some more going to the printer at the beginning of May. If you want a set, PM me.

Got a little more done.

Painted the engine over the past few days.
Used Duplicolor engine paint and primer for the case and side covers. Color is aluminum. The upper engine is black wrinkle from PJ1. Not exactly happy with the way the wrinkle turned out- it doesn't seem very uniform but it will suffice. Looks much, much better than it did.

got the seat pan finished too:

Used 14 gauge steel from speedymetals.com
I basically cut to shape using my cutoff wheel, pounded in the fender bump in back, and then welded some weld-nuts in place so that I can bolt it on from underneath. The seat is going to be distressed black leather- super thin and flat. Sent it off to Ginger at www.newchurchmoto.com
she does the work for glass from the past. Can't wait to see the finished seat.

Still trying to decide on what to do with frame. I was thinking about leaving bare metal and simply putting a clear coat on it, but now I am leaning more towards black (either powder coat or appliance epoxy spray can to save some bucks)

The fender you can see is the stock OEM rear fender that I cut down significantly and then had welded on to frame for a permanent solution. The tank is a really nice CJ360 tank that I found on ebay. Not a single scratch or dent on it. Paint is faded though. I plan on stripping it down and leaving it polished bare metal.

Only thing left to do before I start assembling is address the battery. I can't decide where to mount it and I don't really have the welding skills to weld together a nice box. I would really love it if someone out there could supply me with a small box that I can weld to frame for a battery.

yah that would probably look cool. Not sure where you would get steel colored leather though. Was considering brown leather but decided on the old standby black. I went with distressed to mix it up a little.
 
So, its been forever since I have updated. I got a nice surprise e-mail today saying my seat was done and is being shipped this week.
Really excited to see it in person because the picture she sent looks totally awesome. Compare to the photos of just the seat pan above a couple posts.

Ginger from www.newchurchmoto.com did the seat. $270 included padding, and upholstering with black leather and piping upgrades. Regular vinyl seat without piping was $200 but I upgraded. Little pricey but her work seems top- notch. She upholsters for 'glass from the past'.

Previously, I have been using a local guy to do my powder coating but I was getting sorta irritated at how long things were taking and his lack of communication. He also seemed a little pricey. I looked around and found a place about 15 minutes away in Milwaukee that was way cheaper, and way quicker. I dropped it off today and they will be ready in 3 days. The frame, headlight ring, and fender were $100 and that includes media blasting them. Will see how the quality is. I am sure it will be fine. The difference is- this new place is clearly a high volume industrial place that cranks out tons of powder coated parts. I could see about 10 employees in the brief time I was there compared to the 2 man, small run operation I had been going to. He wanted to charge me $350 for the same parts.
 
Sold all the extra tanks
Green was nice except it had four or five dents in it.
The cj tank I found was dent free- will be stripping and polishing it soon
