Anyone commute on a naked/streetfighter?

I know- nakeds are BOUGHT and streetfighters are BUILT; however, they offer the same wind protection: NONE!!! It can be painful riding an unfaired bike- admit it; unless you are only riding under 50 mph, that is...

Let me hear your stories...

I prefer a naked bike, if I want wind protection I take the truck. With the right bars ( low ) I find the wind takes just enough pressure off my arms to make the ride quite comfortable.

Every day I DON'T make my long commute by bike I get angry; however, sometimes it is not easy. That being said, I would rather ride than drive.

But it does get a tiny bit painful sometimes. I ain't bitching- just reporting.

Just did a 600km trip over the weekend on the ZX9 fighter with some cruiser riding buddies. The wind factor was never a problem highway or otherwise....the sports suspension on "less than smooth" roads was another matter entirely......

Maybe it's the fact that the main highway I ride on is quite open (no trees nearby or otherwise). Maybe it is, as well, that my cruising speed is close to 75mph. Again, 50-60 mph is not windy at all.

i used to ride my fighter to work all the time, no problem on the highway at 65-85 mph for 40 - 50 min

It must be the roads I ride on; as I rode on some different roads today and it wasn't painful in the least; however, the familiar roads were a bit painful- I had better not turn my head or the wind would nearly give me whiplash.

how much saddle time do you have a on a standard or rockey style ride possition? i know for me coming from choppers and HDs that was a huge change for me, that it beat me up... i was then told by a buddy that races to squeeze with my thighs and tighten my abs, made a whole new world for me! could go form 1 hour riding to riding all day when i would think that. something that may help!

Monsters have a weird hybrid position. I am also considering adjustble pegs as my ankles feel cramped!!!

also... arent you in Joliet? i was down there about 4 times this weekend, once for a B day party, once to stop by the old mans bar (grapevine off 30) and the other 2 when we where out country road riding with a big group of us. you from that area or am i thinking of somene else?

ahhh... well then in that case we will be out your way the weekend after next. i have about 3 weeks in a row that i have to head to missiouri, once to some town right outside of the lou that has the worlds largest katsup bottle, and then columbia mo the next and marshall after that

I rode my 'naked' BMW R75 to Deals Gap from Toronto and back over 10 days with no fairing and was fine. I commute regularly to work on my XS650 cafe racer (painful after 45 mins).

Our good friend Paul Dutra just completed 15 days and over 6000 miles on his wild modifed DOHC CB750

I think I have narrowed it own to the stretch of road, as other roads are fine.

I also think it's what you're used to, as well as handlebars, riding position, and such.

At this point in my life, I won't have a fairing. They are ugly (however functional) in my opinion. But I don't tour either. Both the VTR and The XS1100 are naked, and I have ridden them each 3-400 miles without problems. At 30 degs or lower, it gets a little cold, though.

I dislike fairings as well but I do have removable screens for both my 450 and my naked GL. It is just enough to cut the wind at 80+ MPH and keep you from getting too tired. Clamping legs to tank and flexing abs helps a bunch to like Joe said. I went from home to the WV GTG 1200 miles over 2 days with the GL and the small screen and was great, well I was a bit sore and tired, but it helped. I couldn;t maintain the 75-80 MPH cruising speed for 8-12 hours without it. I took it off as soon as I got there and didn't use it again until I left. Good Comprimise if you do long distances and I agree on some of the freeway i rode the wind could be killer, then at the same speed on one with more trees etc, and it was not near as bad.
