bandit upgrade

was time for a new chain... being as vain as i am i could not justify just any regular chain... so i got a red o ring... also with the gear change i did on the front sprocket i dropped from a 112 link to a 110 so it is not as slack...
also... spoke to progressive tech dept... got a set of progressive fork springs coming in to eliminate the dive the bike has stock...
and also a new steering damper and neck bearing kit from all balls as she is popping just a bit and would rather fix it before it is an issue!

used to have an 01' bandit 1200 it was an awsome machine. Pretty much the most underrated motorcycle on the road

really? i did not know i could pop GSXR cams in there... right now i am chasing my tail a bit...
on my bandit when i am cruising at speed (highway 55-85) and i give it gas there is a lag, then sharp pull... it worried me so this is what i have done:
- my chain was shot so i replaced that
- checked the front sprocket to ensure it was tight, it was not so i tightened it back up
- new chain is lubed and adjusted
- front sprocket still has allot of life it in as does the rear

Now the bike when i am riding and come off the gas will hear a clicking sound from the front sprocket (reason i thought it was loose) and i still get the lag and pull when accelerating at highway speed. Any help would be great this is my daily rider and i need to keep it tip top.. i know allot of people will suggest the carrier bearing but i replaced all the bearings when i powder coated the rims last fall, any advice on where to start would be great

- chain 530 o-ring 110 link
- front sprocket T14
- rear sprocket stock
- year 1997
- 600 cc (stock pipe single baffle removed)
- plugs and wires replaced 8 months ago
- all service reg scheduled is performed on time

I am thinking that the issue may lie in the sprockets... of course i did not practice what i preach and i replaced the chain not the sprockets... i curently have dropped a T in the front to a 14 and run the stock 47 in back... but i am going to replace them so i want a change i am thinking of going to a 14t/48t set up... problem is i just bought a new chain and i got a 110 link... anyone know if the 110 will fit with a 14/48 setup or do i have to go 17/47 again

Yup the GSXR 750 cams will pop into the 1200. IRC its 86-89 GSXR 1100 or 89-09 GSXR 750 cams. The GSXR 750 cams have alot better performance. Alot of guys throw the 750 cams in the 1100's.

Do you have Pod filters on or the stock air box? I know with pods on the GSXR 750's, 1100 and Bandit 1200's, its tough to jet the jetting and carbs tuned properly. The stock airbox actually performs a bit better if there ar eno mods done to the actual engine.

yep that is what i read as well... i am not going to mod this engine at all, if i cahnge it ill drop a GSXR750 motor in it... but to be honest it is my daily rider... got it with 4,000 on the clock and i just turned 28000 on it last week... in under 2 years... it gets rode alot! just got to figure out this clicking sound

I've owned many of these engines and never really had a clicking noise. Its definitely coming from the front sprocket and not internal or the cam chain tensioner?

ya it is def the sprocket... i checked for the sticky auto tensioner, and did the valves at the start of the season... also did the old screw driver stethoscope trick on the motor and she was nice and smoooth... it is def coming from the front sprocket... i am thinking that maybe they are just worn so replacing them should do the trick... now i need to find out if i can fit a 14t front and 48t rear on a 110 chain... i know stock is 15t/47t on 110

I never liked going down in the front because of the stress it puts on the chain. That hesitation is a pain to sort out. I'm still working it out but I have a much different set up than you/

Keep me posted .

Love the bike dude!

My brother has a '01 600.

Nice bike in general.

Can I ask you about your set up with the hard plastic panniers you have going on there?

What brand are they and how did you mount them?

Before my bro leaves for the Army, the bandit will become my father's daily commuter so I wanna outfit it with some bags for his connivance.

had the last bit of work to do on the bandit... went back to the 15t front pulley... put on some D207 sportmax tires, pulled the header and muffler... coated them and put them back on the bike... all ready to go!

Can I ask a quick question without offending You??... Why is this in the "Streetfighter" section?? It's clearly not a fighter more of a sport-tourer ....

no offence at all... the bike has undergone a suspension swap in rear, complete powder up grade, fighter bar set up, pipe change, been regeared, ebc clutch upgrade, and ton of powder... to me this is my street fighter... does it have bags, 100% but this bike is rode 40 - 5o miles every day rain or shine or hell even snow... in chicago traffic... and i have even been smashed on it by a car... and i put it back together... sport touring to me i picture a cat on top of his scoot intercom helmet taking nice swoopers in the country... this bike fights every day it is on the road and is ridden harder than pretty much any bike on the forum i would bet... to me that is a street fighter, doe is have a jacked up tail piece, nope... also i left the full fairing on rather than cutting that off and putting a small lamp on the front... i needed the wind protection for those -15 degree days... the question falls, what is a street fighter... the ones i see have full suspension swaps... i have done that with a complete GSXR suspension swap in rear, and progressive and 15mm slug in front... engines are modded... mine has been opened up and put a new EBC performance clutch in... they can walk wheelies.... i have gone up a tooth in back, dropped a tooth to a 14 in front, she will pick up and run like anything on the road... is highly moddified... mine has been down to the frame (twice) complete custom paint... an INSANE amount of custom powder work laid on it... upgraded the lamps to HID, hell i even cut and reshaped the seat then recovered it... pipe was pulled buffles cut out, jet kit installed, and they where also coated so it has that mean growl it should have... but then i tossed on huge german cases so that i can put customer parts in there and use this to move parts to and from the shop... to me, this is 100% a fighter and is riden like i am mad at it hahaha
