Thanks WS. Yeah there have been a couple I wouldn't mind having back. There always seems to be a little something that bugs me then I end up re-doing the whole darn thing. Its kind of weird in a way that each incarnation has paid a price to let it evolved to what it is. I don't think it would be where its at without going through each transformation. I'll tell ya though I think I'm enjoying this one the most ;D

Sorry to back pedal here but I must. Kanticoy sent me some pics were we made the tank. I'm so lucky to have such talented friends. That night was such a blast. Thanks fellas!

Almost forgot. We were using the red wire hanging off the axle plate to get an idea on location of the new bottom rail. Not exactly were its at in the pics though haha.

Sick! Bike looks amazing and I like where the seat is going, should look great. Nice pics of the tank making process, looks like it was fun.

Troy, love where your taking this build, I'm a big fan of vintage racing graphics(lettering & numbers) and salt flat setups. How difficult was the building of bars,picked up a bar bended a while back to build similar any tips,really love the style,keep up the great work and craftsmanship ;D

Thanks man. Hopefully this will be right up your alley. I really have something to live up to because of Cresent's damn fine art skills haha. He really has set the bar for me. Hope I don't let too many down haha. Doin my best though
The bar was actually pretty easy to bend. My first attempts with the bender a few months ago was pretty bad. This time I preheated the tubing (with a plumbers torch) and made a lot of very little bends. I marked the tubing so I knew where to put it in the die each time. I worked my way all the way around the entire curve trying to give each the same amount of bend. Once at the end of the arc I'd go back and start all over again. Each time was very very subtle. I did this several times until I got the radius I wanted. Seemed to work..

thanks to you bud. Like I said its been years since I did glass. I really appreciate the fiber-glassing tips.
Cold weather has set in. Hell it was almost 70 here over the weekend. Anyhow, Its going to be tough to sneak in body work time. Have to wait till wifey is away in bring it in to the house hehe.

Sorry I came in way too late on this. Love it! Love the tanks. Tyler is doing something similar for his Bonneville bike. Just a thought on the tanks (tell me to STFU if needs be). The filler cap goes on one tank. A breather/vent at the top of the other (with a crossover on the bottom) will allow both tanks to fill through the one filler.

So good call on the vent. I'll keep it in mind when the time comes. Unfortunately, progress from here on out will be slow due to lack of funds.
Hey in complete contradiction of what I just said about lack of funds, hehe, you don't have any leads on any Halibrand gas caps? They are so beautiful but so so expensive... I know they are pretty rare but thought I'd ask.

Sure thing. Hope it works for you. If this didn't work I was going to fill the tubing with water/sand and cap the ends with duct tape. There are probably better ways but I just thought I'd try the little heat and subtle bends method...

Tyler is Tyler Malinky of Lowbrow Customs. He is building another salt bike in his usual perfection style. These are the tanks. The bike is in the bone stage. I'm sure he'll update me shortly. I'll go find a shot of his Triumph on the salt from last year. He does build beauties.
I took this shot of Tyler waiting to run at Bonneville last August. Immaculate bike as was his brothers.

Thanks Jay. that is pretty cool. First thought was an oil filler but the shipping size is huge so I'm not sure what to think. Actually vonyinzer and kanticoy found caps like the other one you posted. Its from an old international truck. Pretty cool looking.
Oh that Tyler. Yes he does build some sweat machines. You must be talking about the Salt Ghost? Awesome machine with quite a history. Learned about it when it was posted on Bikeefx a while back.
And those tanks are killer. They do look famular haha. Wish I could leave mine chrome but the are fighting it. Just too many bruises and spot welds haha. I would love to see more of Tyler's build. Do you know if he has a journal some where?
