The lines of that conduit are very sexy. I like that a lot and like Swagger said, if it flex's a bit it might be ok. Once you get padding on the seat it will look the part well. smooth it out with the bondo and make a leather pad and it will be tits. Get the high density foam, it's thin but really comfy. I used a kneeling pad and I can ride the cafe all day and my ass gets less sore than on the fat ass GL seat.

Looks stunning Troy! I loved the last rendition but this one takes it over the top. Looking forward to seeing it in person. Mtnfest can't come fast enough.

Hey Maritime are you talking about minicell foam? I've made seats out of minicell before and it works fantastic. The pad needs to be between 3-4" thick in the middle and minicell can handle that and its super easy to shape. Its a foam we use to outfit our kayaks.

Good! I bitch and moan about the drive but last year Lars brought his blown flathead Indian over from Denmark!! 6000+ miles round trip. All he managed to do was blow head gaskets. He stayed for BUB and blew more head gaskets. Ran out of gaskets and went home with a shit eatin' grin making plans to be back this year. Thats how it affects some.

Your bike looks like it qould be at home on the salt. It has all the attributes. All it needs is that small brass plaque riveted on somewhere that says your bike ran on the salt. Genuine, no bullshit salt racer. You might even run a record and pick up red record plaque. You need a couple of them!! I've been saving mine.

Could be, I know it is a closed cell foam so it can be thin yet still support you. I got it as a kneeling pad but I know you can get it in sheets too. Kind of like a neoprene, would be something you would use to pad a kayak seat for sure. I find it better on my bike than the 6" thinck factory foam for comfort. It also absorbs vibration too, which would be a bonus on the hardtail.

Maritime that does sound just like minicell. It comes in sheets of 1/8" thick to bricks 4" thick x3-4' wide and as long as you want. Super easy to mold and very durable.


Update:
NO Turning Back Now

I picked up some 1 1/8" .120 wall DOM the other day. Its my first time to run tubing through my bender. It didn't fit the dies like pipe but I still was able to achieve some real nice bends. One thing I did that might help others if they try bending tubing is to draw the bend you want on the floor or on a piece of cardboard.v I outlined the conduit I had previously bent on the floor. Then all you have to do is keep taking the tubing out of the bender and match it up. Its easy to tell exactly where it needs to go back in the bender. I think the key is very very small bends. Its slow but produces some nice results.
Anyhow, on to the progress.

I first leveled the bike stand then leveled the bike on the stand. I then started disassembly. I left the motor in to use as a jig. I then tacked in some pieces to help keep everything true. Then started cutting

After a hell of a bunch of cutting, and grinding I fitted the tubing. Its tacked in for the pics but will be removed so I can fit a slug

One mistake I made is I didnt buy material for sluggs. I hope to pick something up tomorrow. If not everything will be on hold until monday :( . Anyhow the junction behind the motor will get slugged and rosset welded.

Top notch stuff Troy. Even after we talked about you changing up the lower rails I still missed the mock up in the pics. As if this bike isn't bad ass already.......

I do have to say my heart skips a beat every time something drastic changes on this. But I'm reassured since I know the end product will be worth it.

Yeah its almost disheartening to see her cut up on the table. Won't be missing her legs for long man. I promise ya that haha.
I think the lines look more natural this way and that is why so many people missed it in the mock up. but yeah thanks man appreciate it the kind words.


I'm really stoked you're into this bike Hoofhearted. After all you are DTT's King of the Salt. To get props from someone whos been there is about as cool as it gets. Thank you. I'm honored and humbled. Honestly you have inspired me to really consider taking this thing out there. In the future I'd like to decide on a class then build the motor. It wouldn't happen for a couple years though due to lack of funds and work that needs done here on the farm. It really gives me something to shoot for though. I really appreciate you keeping after me. I'm truly inspired!

Now you're making me blush! Unit engines are compact (lengthwise) and in rigids they tend to make the back look like its a mile away from the engine. That swoopy bottom rail makes my eyes see it as much shorter and much more balanced. With the tube fuel tanks its going to be gorgeous! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I don't know if this will work. One guy at Bonneville last year set 7 records with a 50cc machine all under 60 mph. Don't worry about building the motor. Bring it out and run it. Once you get the first Bonneville under your belt you'll go home with your mind building a super motor!!

There was a computer screw up and some of the certs got delayed because they had to be redone. Go straight to page five and check out the records he set. He wasn't too worried about what people thought.
