Black framed Ace 125

Hey guys

Another rookie question about the carb, just managed to change my stock carb to Mikuni VM22, it was a tight fit, took me ages to swap as lack of experiences.

After it was changed, the engine start up fine but sounded like in very high RPM, which scared the hell out of me.... Don't know what I have done wrong though. Currently running with stock air box.

Does the choke lever meant to be down or up ?

Much appreciated!

HI josephau, just left you a reply about your carb on the other thread titled "NEW CARB" didn't realize that you'd asked for help on here last. Cheers, Tad.

Joseph... appears to be same problem as me ... I think your throttle cable maybe stuck and needs adjusting to ensure the spring action of the needle is working properly. You can tell just from whether the throttle twist grip returns to idle position by itself when you release the grip. Mine didn't initially when I reassembled the carby after rejetting. It was stuck in wide open throttle - when I started it up, it revved to the high heavens! Kill switch!

Others have posted "With the throttle cable you will notice there is a cut out of the slider at the bottom of the spring the cut out needs to be towards the back of the carb (towards the air box) as it only goes in one way or else it will be stuck in WOT. Easy mistake to make as it is a bit fiddley to get it back together. " <-- this is key!!

I had to play around with the throttle cable adjustment screws and re-seat the spring/needle in the carby many times (unfortunately for me, I didn't know about this key instruction, so used trial & error but got there in the end), then it all worked. Twist throttle, spring return could be felt again. Started up, bike stayed at idle. Rev up, all normal, ran just fine after that.

Not saying it could be the same problem for you, but sure does sounds similar. Hope it works for you also.

you will notice the difference with the new pipe.. second to 150 pot , this is the best change to make.

... I can't wait Pete ! ... I'm a bit challenged with the tools I have at home (one large hammer, one screwdriver, one borrowed socket set!! hehe), but will find someone to help enlarge the holes on the flange and help with the custom bracket to fit the silencer.

Really want to get some nice mid-range torque (quite hilly where I live).

Finally ! ... Got my new exhaust and CDI fitted with the help of a mate who was more mechanically gifted than I ! He fabd a bracket for the silencer and helped with the flange holes.

Sounds great and feels much more responsive now ...

Will post a sound file of the new exhaust tomorrow ... At idle, it really sounds like a much larger bike, very impressed by the sound and change in its attitude!

Glad to see it come along so quickly! Looks great. Should ride much better, more responsive. When I made my exhaust I cut into one of the bends in the original pipe and found that the internal wall of the pipe was half cut off in the bends with gathered up inside pipe. And after that it had to get past the two cats. Exhaust was choking the poor little bike half to death.

Looking good mate I will have to get my bracket for the silencer sorted tomorrow.

I might even get to go round the block!

Well here it is ... Hope this video/sound file uploads OK ... at idle, lots of bass and a nice throaty burble ... it sounds much better in real life, than if played through the PC speakers.

I've since adjusted the idle speed down, so it sounds 'lumpy' now ... not quite "potato-potato-potato" but close !! hehe.

At high revs, when on the freeway, it's quite loud and a bit 'tinny' ... just like in the second half of this vid from 00racing:

... maybe I just got too used to the sound of the stock exhaust !! hehe ... any suggestions on how to maybe re-pack it to reduce the noise slightly?.

Other than that, it's smiles all around ... am very happy overall with the change in bike's performance, improved mid-range torque & bike's new 'attitude'. Noticeable change - especially going up the same hill in my area.

And it easily get's up to 115 km/h now, no worries at all ... probably can push it a little harder if I tried (80 kg rider).

With 00racing's header, silencer, carby rejet, EGR removal and CDI kit (303), its a highly recommended mod to everyone ...

... few more pics from this morning's ride !

... are they the stock rear shocks?

Yes Chris ... I don't really feel the need to replace them just yet, but have looked at a few aftermarket options.

... hmmm, wonder if it's the same as your stock unit, but without the outer chrome cylinder (maybe that part wasn't fitted, or was forgotten, by my bike dealer)?? ...

I'm thinking about removing the front rubber covers (shock absorber sheaths?) on the front forks ... but don't want to have to remove the front forks or triple unit, or just cut the rubber?

Looking good mate, and sounds good too.

whats the difference like when riding? as i still haven't got out on mine yet!

... you will definitely notice a difference, Liam ! - I did on mine. Feels more torquey ... and just love the new sound (especially at the lights!).

the ones on your bike looks like it has adjusters to preload the springs, from what i can see in the photo, the stock ones dont have preload adjusters.
