I’m not shocked at all. I have difficulty sourcing certain things cheaply, like metal stock, in my town. Is the McMaster-Carr rule a Canada only rule? They’ve been my primary source for hardware and materials going on 15 years living in Philadelphia and Augusta, GA. I’ve never once had an issue buying anything from them as a non-business. I never tried to set up a NET30 account, so purchasing runs through a credit card. They even have a mobile app.

Yes, if you are in the USA they will sell to you directly. In Canada, they won't. They will only sell to a dealer. It's quite annoying, because the people here likely just get the item from them and add their 200% markup on it.

There is a Canadian, Fastenal, but they also only sell to businesses. It is so frustrating.
 
Charlie, did you get a reply back from Apex yet? I didn't - I'm wondering how much "extra" line I should allow for (compared to the OEM lines) when placing an order.

Nope. Judging by their outdated website, i'm half expecting our emails to sit in some inbox that no one ever checks.

I've been trying to decide on that myself. I'm using my throttle cable to simulate a brake line and playing around with what the routing might be and the length. I feel like 32" & 38" would be ok for me. Seems to have enough slack with the bars turned one way and the other.

Their website doesn't list an address or a phone number.

I never heard back on my email to them, so wondering what's up.

Are they a shop run by some old school dude who doesn't even check email? I don't want to place an order only to never hear back after that either. lol.
 
No phone number that I can find, but I never needed to call them. I just measure what I want, use their guide to which fittings and then place an order. They are always quick to fill the order. Never any problems so far.
 
Yeah I agree, the website is a little underwhelming and the email response non-existent. Maybe you could help with my question Teazer, namely what kind of bracket (if any?) would I need? I'm pretty sure I don't need one at all (are they for auto applications?) as none of them look very familiar. That would mean all I then need to figure out are line lengths, but I don't know how these guys measure line length. If I need, say, 22" from eye of banjo to eye of banjo should I order their 22" line, or more like 20" (the banjo on each end would then make up the difference in length)?

I can't find any of this info on their site. Thanks man

I wouldn't worry about the brackets. They are likely not to fit any potential mounting point on your forks anyways. I think they might be for a car application.

As for the length, that's a good question. I was wondering about that myself, but still haven't heard back on my email.

I thought the business was Canadian, but it says on ebay they are USA based.
 
Dunno man, the guy set me up with a listing for the whole kit and caboodle ($118 US for the 4 lines I needed including all the banjos and washers, $14 US for FedEx shipping) and that sounded good to me. Get in touch with him thru eBay if you have any questions, he's pretty helpful
 
Contacted the fella. Waiting reply. Mounted my rebuilt and painted MC only to find out it sits at a ridiculous angle. :/

Did the mid 80s CBs have handlebars that curve down significantly. I guess so because it wouldnt otherwise sit level. Lol. This might be a bit of an issue.

I need a kick stand on the right side for this to be even close to level when bleeding brakes. Lol

That M/C is designed to work on clipons with a fairly steep angle. That's not a good choice for your application.

This is the original 83 nighthawk MC. It definitely wasnt on clipons..... though the 83 bars might have been bent in a similar angle as the clipons. I dont know. I dont have the original bars.

Definitely did not think of this until started putting things together

Good thing I took the time to clean it, paint it, and put in a new $22 rebuild kit ... all before putting it up to the bars. Urghhhhhhhh#$#$@@$

Order with Raymond at Apex placed. Two lines, with all fittings and banjo bolts - $75USD with shipping.

So that's just over $100 CAD. A far cry from what the prices on Fortnine were to piece together my own lines.

No hate toward Fortnine. I've bought several hundred dollars in other parts lately that I think were decently priced. (A bit slow to ship nowdays though. Must be running the warehouse at reduced capacity due to covid)

I am awaiting mine. Same stainless color, but i went with black fittings because i thought the silver were too shiny (chrome). But yours look like they aren't too shiny.
