waiting on the chain, cables, drain plug and the exhaust gaskets, all will be here this week, it will probably not even get gas in the tank until after i bring it down to barber this weekend

Good stuff brother. I think you should tape off the knee indents and sandblast them to a matte finish. That will set them off...

+1. I really like that idea Chris. Might even help give the knees something to hold onto. Might be cool to stencil a design before sandblasting. Then pull the stencil off?? anyway. Love the way this bike is turning out. Did I read it's for a customer? This child would be hard for me to give up.

I like that... i might just hit them with 400 grit to see what it would look like, that way i could still polish it back if not... the bike was built on spec really, i intended to sell it, so that affected a lot of my choices, but no customer as of yet... I agree too, it's really growing on me ;D

I've etched my brand mark on aluminum already and can post pics of the result if interested. Actually, I etch on on all stuff. I'll post pics in the morning

it looks cool.

Chris, I'm really liking this idea alot. Not sure you'd get the same effect with sanding as you would sand blasting, but it might do its purpose of giving the idea of how it may look.
I can see some nice clean outerlines with some kind of logo real shinny somewhere inside of the sandblasted alum. It might look sweet.

Now your talking! Would tie in nice with etched Knee dents ;D. Killer!!! Would add a really nice touch.

so the bike's done but wouldn't ya know it, the gremlins have foiled my plans again! I had it ready tonight to drive it down to Birmingham for barber and the cafe show... so I managed to prevent any gremlin attacks but my girlfriend and copilot was sick all week and saw the doctor today to find out she has pneumonia... well shoot... at least they didn't get the bike :(

indeed, etching pinstriping into a tank would look badass. something i'll look at doing in the next few weeks.

Oh that sucks man! I hope you're still gonna make it to Barber's! I'm not gonna make it until Saturday either, but you bet your ass I'll see you there Saturday!

well, it's a 15 hour drive for me, which I can't do in one shot alone... so no copilot, no go :-P

That's what a Claratin-D and a couple venti coffee's are for. You'll get there in no time :)

when i was in school, i used to commute from rochester to boston every week for a good paying 3 day a week job... I could probably hack 3x that, but i caught myself falling asleep at the wheel a couple times back then, so that would be a no go... there will be other shows, i hear there's a big one in toronto in january

woot! got the bike running, replaced the bowl gaskets because they were leaky, but after that, adjusted in the timing, and tore it up and down my street at about 2:30 with a bunch of friends all drunk on whiskey! hehehe, shifted good, brakes were good and it opened up nice, though I didn't really push it because a: i was drunk and b: the street is oil stone and it was raining

i'm going to have a hard time selling this if i do, it's becoming my favorite :-D
