CB550 Project Scruffy Racer

Managed a small ride out today, within the covid regulations which allow meeting up with 1 person for a coffee !

chose wisely, friend with a 1980 cb750 ( the one i rebuilt the motor for before christmas)

both bukes running well , phew !

They make brake discs (and fork stanchions as well) the one in the pic below cost £75.....suspect you're drilling wasn't much less than that....?

Hello boys and girls

it’s been a while so i thought you might appreciate a Scruffy update !

Scruffy is fan-bloody-tastic !

the remaining niggle for a while has been the front suspension being very harsh.
i’ve tried every oil grade, hagon springs, yss emulators and finally All Balls low friction fork seals - Hallelujah!
the low friction seals really make a difference, maybe 20-30% better plushness

the 600cc conversion, and a one tooth bigger front sprocket, allows Scruffy to cruise nicely at any reasonable speed …. and he has plenty of torque/power from 5k for the fun stuff. handling on the Road Riders and Hagons is really good and the double disk setup provides decent braking. He’s a blast to ride.

here’s how Scruffy is looking after a few thousand miles of fun use, mainly in the rain it seems !
