Cb750 oil filter conversion

Has anyone done the conversion to use standard automotive oil filters on a cb750? Is there any reason a filter like this would be bad for an older motor or am I thinking too much?

easier oil changes and easier to find the filters. I could spend 30 on an oil housing and 10-15 on a bolt or I could get this for 60

Thinking too much, why would you even want to?
Much easier than dealing with the housing, easier to get a filter, extra oil capacity....you need more?

  • Modern filters incorporate anti-drain back valve (not in OEM design)
  • Many feel that modern filters offer a more reliable pressure relief valve than the OEM design.

The only thing I would worry about is if the bypass valve in the spin-on is set too high or too low....but too high is the worst. That could cause a reduced oil flow when or of the filter gets dirty.

a friend of mine did it on his 836, it was apparently kinda complicated and needed a part from bmw, but he probably did it because he worked at a bmw shop and got those filters for nothing... so maybe using another filter would be easier

Very old modification, and done a million times.
I personally don't see the reason.

OEM filters are super cheap and easy to get.

Complete waste of effort if not also adding an oil cooler at the same time

It was going with something that looked convenient or going on ebay and buying the bucket which I was missing. The difference of ~20$ and I think its a cool mod.

I know some exhausts will need to come off to change the filter, with a smaller screw on one, you can do it without removing it
