Hello everyone my name is Matt. I'm new to the forum but thought I'd post my latest build. It's a91 cr500 in a 98 cr250 frame. I've been drooling over Roland sands cr500 for years and so a few years ago I decided the only way I'd ever get to see how it would be to ride would be to build my own version so I began to compile parts for the build. I found as many images of his bike online that I could and began by building a subframe similar to his. The next thing I wanted to do was build a fuel tank for it. I read that Roland sands bike utilized the factory cr250 tank with an aluminum cover over the top. At 2.3 gallons I figured the factory tank wouldn't cut it for the thirsty 500 so I decided I'd build a foam plug mold and build a carbon fiber fuel tank. I'll get more into the nitty gritty details soon but I thought I'd start with a few pics of the bike how it sits now.

Very cool.

What flywheel are you running? oh and yeah, you need to get brakes on that thing. The RS version is legend and very high on my list of coolest bikes ever.

Missed that, I guess. Saw pictures. Pictures showed awesomeness.

Wonder how that frame will handle the much higher power output from the 500 engine..

Thanks everyone! More pics of the build coming soon. There are a couple routes I can go on the electronics but haven't decided which way to go yet. I could get a high output stator from service Honda but they're expensive and they seem to do limited production runs so they go like hot cakes when they're available on the site. Next option is a bolt on lighting coil that bolts to the factory stator but from what I've read online you're lucky to get 20w out of it. It's advertised as a 35 or 45w lighting coil, I can't remember. The third option that I've seen is to run a cr125 or 250 flywheel and stator because evidently there are more lighting options for those bikes. I need to look into the last a little more but I did find a vid on YouTube of a guy running the 125 on his 500 trail bike.
The front brake is in the works. The front forks are from a Suzuki gsxr 1000 and I'm using the Honda hub with the gsxr rotor so I designed an adapter/spacer and 3D printed it to see how it would work. My next step is just taking all the dimensions of the plastic part and building the adapter out of aluminum. And I noticed a couple of people asked if it wheelies. Hell yes it does! I've taken it on some low speed test runs on a straight open dead end road by my place and it will lift the front tire in every gear. I figure the bike weighs no more than about 230 wet and I'm not sure what the engine putting down yet but it has a really aggressive port job and a cpi pipe that was built for my sand dune bike. In my sand dune bike the engine was also bored .90 over and was scary fast and really fun but it lost compression so I pulled it apart and had it re sleeved to stock bore and that's when I decided to start this build. I'll get all of the pics together and post the entire build from the beginning soon but thanks for all the interest and questions! Im happy to answer all questions and if you're thinking about building one, just do it, you won't regret it.

Used to be quite a common combination in supermoto racing, the alloy CR250 frame is supposed to be a lot better than the steel CR500 frame for supermoto, I thought the alloy framed CRs felt a bit too stiff and lacked feel compared with steel framed mx bikes.
