cx'y 500

This morning I got the battery mounts cut to size and fitted it, I also fitted the drive shaft and the swing arm

An absolute must was on of my mate Damion's death or glory fighters stickers, as if it hadnt gone on theere would have been a stewards enquary.

Anyway, I like it and have one on my blade so its all good
I think I might need a bit of a hand to get it off the bench as its starting to get a bit heavy now.

He's a great bloke mate and always ready to help his old fella, but hes more into xbox mate.
I attached the wiring loom this afternoon, it wasnt a big deal because I marked everything up when I reconditioned it
I guess the only bit that took a bit of thought was wiring the stator generator, but even that was a doddle because it came with a drawing

going quite well now, and I dont think it will be to long before its back on its wheels

When I brought the CX it came with a really nasty front break set up. The res is a big boxy thing thats attached to the lever and doesnt leav much to make it look anything better than what it is.

I like the set up on my 96 blade because the res can be changed for a nice ally job, so I got this one off ebay.

I'll start cleaning and polishing the switch gear next.

I took a look at my switch gear that came with the CX and to be honest it was a bit on the sorry side. Its ally, I hate polishing ally, so I got my dremel out and started the mind crushing job of flatening it off.

Even though its a bit grim in there I like to take reference photos because I just know I'll forget how it goes back together.

Once I got all the old paint off I flattened it with 120 grit paper

Then 400 wet and dry

Then went down to 600 wet and dry

And lastly solvo autosol

It will look better when the grips and bar ends I have on order are on but for now I'm happy with the results.

The other side will get the treatment tomorrow. The lever was a bit loose, up and down so I used a really thin washer just to shim it and it works fine now.

I was a bit worried about the bars and levers etc. but I'm a lot happier now and think they are going to be fine, and wont let down the rest of the bike.

My grips arrived today, I went with black as I thought they looked a bit more retro

They were a nice tight fit to get on so they shouldnt slip around to much, but there was a small problem in that the throtle wouldnt go on far enough for the bar ends when they arrive.

I thought I would take a bit out of the bracket with my round back file to move things over a bit.

This should help the bracket to sit on the bar tube a bit better.

Theres a weld on the bend of the bar that needs to be allowed for so the bracket needed to be undercut to compensate.

Its just a small thing but it would bug me if it didnt sit right

Now the throtle can slide further onto the bars and sit right for the bar ends.

Now then, I'm going to polish the switch gear on this side too, but paint the lever black to match the othercside.

All this made in Japan stuff is just going to get in the way when it comes to polishing so its best to file it off

My mates Rob and Porky dropped round earlier to give me a hand lifting the CX off the bench on to my shed floor so I can continue with assembly

Fitted the final drive, filled it to level with heavy gear oil then fitted the other shock.

Then got the forks in

All went together quite easy and I'm lovin those bars

I think I'm going to need to chop down the loom a bit, as there seems to be miles of it up fromt.

Ok, so I made the seat and chopped down the fender, I've covered that and now I'm going to draw a line under it

This next bit is 100% Dave-SP2 and his outstanding tallent as a bike painter.
Dave arrived at my house at about 08:30 this morning with my fender tank and seat.

To be totally honest I was stunned at the job he has done and for a few moments all I coul say was "You gotta be kidding me man"

Anyway, this is Dave and his awesome work.

The guy is a proper nice bloke and the only input I had was a colour brief. Dave went with the idea of my colours but changed the tone's of both the Orange and grey to Suzuki Swift Orange and Porche silver/grey. Dave had total freedom to interperate the colours and came up with a job 10, 50, a 100 times better than I could have imagined.

If you use Dave or have a painter as good as Dave I would strongly advise you let them run with your design brief because these guys know their stuff and will blow you away with their work.

If you havent guessed by now I really pleased with my paint job and 100% credit goes to dave.

I love the proportions of that stripe. You see so many that look wrong, but that is spot on. Also like the way he's contoured it at the ends, and not just bled it off the panels. Top job.

Thank you Sirs one and all for those kind words, but it aint over yet. The temptation is just to throw it all together and get it finished, but as you know there are still loads of little jobs to do, if not done right will let the bike down.

Not a million miles from the end, but stay with me and I'll show you what a CX500 should have looked like in the first place lol ;D
