DO THE TON Mama Tried IV Oct 2013 - Barber Vintage Festival

And honestly if you have a couple hundred dollars to spend ,you can leave there was a Project bike easily!! So if you don't have something already it's not too long of a wait, And you'll have the best possible selection of project bikes imaginable!!

If anyone sees a tall, slim dude walking around in a badass vintage yellow Triumph t-shirt, they should just know its you. And if they see a hobbity-looking dude wearing said t-shirt, they'll know its Justin. And I will then start looking for your body.

Ha!

Just a few concerns from me for whatever it is worth.

Do we really want to be inside the Ace Corner as the official presence of DTT? I may be reading into it a little too much, but that means that people who are not affiliated with us are going to have to pay to be exposed to Do The Ton. It also means that in order to park and chill with your fellow DTTers then you're going to have to buy an ace corner pass to do out on a daily basis. I know that some members here do not want to buy the ace pass for the entire weekend, so that may create an issue.

I'll be honest with you. I am not a fan of a paid pass for ace corner at all. I buy them because I want to participate in the content, but my mind isn't committed to the custom vintage bike scene being a completely "for profit" concept. It has always been about the community and companionship to me, and to me it is against everything that George Barber stands for when he created the motorsports park. It doesn't make sense to me even from a profit standpoint to make a paid entry location simply because as a vendor you aren't able to sell your product to as large a number of people as you normally would. This of course is beside the point. The concern here is whether the official DTT presence should be accessed only by people who pay to participate exclusively. Again, I may be reading into this too much, but that seems a little off too!
+1 totally agree!

I think we need more discussion/clarification on DTT's presence.

Well, that's sort of what I had tried to start a few days ago, till the thread was hijacked with 3 word posts ;)

While I've submitted some ideas to the team doing the Ace Corner organizing (move the ticket validation to the tunnel, past the DTT area which is how it was supposed to be last year.. etc.) I've also just been speaking with my better 1/2.

We're talking about making this a family trip - with both my wife and 12 year old daughter tagging along. They're both keen on motorcycles and interested in seeing the museum etc. and I've been selling the South as somewhere we should pack our bags and relocate to in the future. Screw snow.

So - while the door is still cracked open to an official DTT presence, if I make this a family trip, it's highly unlikely I would try to do both.

Who else will be travelling with significant others and/or children in tow? I know from previous years we always have some couples around, but just wanted to gauge it. Kim (my wife) rides (2011 TU250X) but we wouldn't be hauling it down. She's a new rider, and my MINI and trailer is set up for a single bike.

Tim, my wife and I will be around for the entire weekend. We are planning on camping at Kiley's every night, so we will not have our son this year - we think he is still too young to appreciate the trip. But maybe next year.....

Edit: If your wife would like to bring that little Suzuki, I could find space on a trailer for it. Maybe you could ride from Toronto to Pittsburgh while she trailered it here? Either way, I'm more than happy to help if possible.

Don't sweat the ticket validation location. It's in the hands of Barber, and they likely had their good reasons for putting it where they did last year, and it may be we can't influence the decision this year, but I'm handling it.

Again, for those that want to relive last year and prepare yourself for 2013, check out the pics from 12 months back:

Tim, if there's any way that dtt could be set up this year the way it was supposed to be last year, then I'm totally on board to help in any way I can. Ill even try to help if its a cluster like last year, but Jenn and I were only planning on being in the ace area one day (because its just not worth it).

However, if you decide to just do the family thing, I'm sure it'd be fun for everyone,, and that's what this is all about, right? Low stress, just a good time for everyone. Its easy to lose that in the big show sometimes. We all enjoyed the dtt part last year, and would love to see it again, but at the same time I have to question if its worth it to pimp ourselves to the show and add stress to everyone (especially you).

I would love to see an environment like Barber 2011 return to Ducati hill. but im afraid that was a one hit wonder that year as far as the sense of welcomeness and personal interaction goes. If we can have an official presence there with out getting tossed under the bus like last year, I'm all in for it, and if we get tossed under anyways,, im all in for dtt still. Im in it for us, not dime city, not ace, or even barber. I love being there and enjoying all the festival has to offer, but dtt is family to Jenn and I.

I'm local to the area and if you need anything from me as well logistically or there on the property just let me know

Meant to say earlier...I'll help in any way I can. This is my first vintage fest, and first motorcycle gathering in general, so I'm not quite sure what to expect (can it really be much different than a music festival but with bikes? ;)). What better way to meet everyone than putting in a little time helping the cause. I'll be there all weekend...just let me know what I can do.

On a sidenote should've known you were from Huntsville Bama engineer with engineer in your handle LOL
