Sorry fellas - thought I replied to this but I guess my phone didn't agree with my post......

I see exactly what you're saying Ben. I personally am a little hesitant to drill a hole in that bottom mount though (IIRC, it's not the thickest steel to begin with). Maybe if it was beefed up a little with some plates welded in.......some other time I suppose. Plus, I would have to look at the ride height as well - my legs probably won't be getting much longer any time soon!

If I ever get this thing fully street legal, I was thinking about getting hold of a shock manufacturer and see if they could build one more to suit. I think it's Ikon that has made them for a guy on the GR forum?

Also,check into these places and see if rebuilding your shock would be cheaper.Also check you options with them.

Little progress, but nothing mind blowing. Started gathering up some stuff to change the driveline up to a more off road set up. New hubs (front and rear), sprockets, rear bearings, slotted rotor, and some other stuff. Waiting for the rear hoop and spokes to show up, and on pay day I have to order a rear tire and some other small bits.

The right now my gear ratio is 15/47 (tooth count front/rear) so 3.13. Stock sprockets are 15/38 (2.53) and the new ones are 16/40 (2.5) which is VERY close to stock but I have the benefit of larger diameters to keep the chain away from the swinger.

A cush drive would be better if you're running on the street.

Sorry for the confusion Ben: that is the replacement sprockets stacked on top of the front rotor. And the cush drive of the rear hub is facing down in that pic.

That's odd...... all the research I've done pointed to GS450 and GS500 owners using the GR cams. Might be worth looking back into it though.......

GR cams have a little more lift but not as much duration.I don't know what the lobe separation is.Also,the GR cams aren't designed to rev to 11,500 like the GS cams.Dgyver over on gstwins was planning a GS six speed trans swap, into a GR case, with a sectioned GSXR head.He started it and then lost interest.

Probably should update this one too.........

I have been collecting the parts to have 2 sets of wheels: the dual sport set (mounted now) and a off road only set. I have GR hubs, spokes for GT wheels, an aluminum 19" front hoop and a steel 18" rear hoop. On Monday, I should have everything else I need: front bearings, rear tire and inner tube, and rim strips. So hopefully by this time next week the tires will be mounted along with the new sprockets.

Still waiting on the front bearings (should be here today along with the rear tire) and they need trued up.

Where are you buying your rims and spokes Rich? Still looking for a viable, non-Buchanan's source. I have no problem with Buchanan other than their pricing.

I'm with you Swag - I can't afford their work.

I get all mine one eBay. My front wheels and spokes are from the Suzuki GT models since they are identical to the GR. My rear wheels and spokes are from the GT 550/750 since the hub diameter is the same (but the GT hubs are too narrow for my swinger). As long as I get a GR rear hub, I can lace up the GT's 18" hoop.

If I'm ever motivated enough I might start looking for some spokes for the 450... unlikely though as I'm just having too much fun riding her every day to take any down time :D

Do it Pete! Even if you just gather up all the parts for one big changover..........and go with the dual disc swap while you're at it!

And thanks for the props on the wheels. I took them and the tires up this morning to get them mounted up. So tomorrow morning I will pick them up and mount them if I get the chance. Of course, there will be pics once they are mounted up!

Picked up the wheels this morning from my tire guy. Sat them up against the garage door and realized the 18" rear is actually larger than the 19" front now.......

I need to do some work on the front fender, along with get a new chain (since I mounted new sprockets mounted as well). But I rolled it outside and snapped a couple pics:
