First Build: 74 CB360

WAR DAMN EAGLE!!
Whats up guys! I'm fairly new to the site and have just been lurking for a bit now while I slowly started on my build. I've ridden for years, and always kept some sort of vintage scoot on the side to satisfy that urge. I dragged raced an 06 ZX10r for the last few years and after a close call one night I decided that it was time to move on to something else while my luck was still alive and well. Looked sport tourer-ish for a while but just having a bike that I rode then parked and really never would have a good reason to "tweak" with just wasn't going to work so I fell back on old faithful and drove 3 hours to pick up a CB750 and this CB360, both clean/clear titled and at different points of a frame up resto/customization. Prefering the smaller framed bikes the CB750 was sold to make room in the shop and finance the build. I had a good base to work off of when I started but I didn't want to just paint the bike and slap a cafe seat on. I wanted a true "one of a kind" bike. I have been meaning to start a build thread for a while now but between running my business and late nights in the shop it's slipped my mind. I'm lucky to have a brother that is a superb welder (and works for me!), a machinist friend, and a motorcycle mechanic genius buddy to help me when I hit a brick wall. Here are a few pics up until where I am now. Progress is going to be fast furious as I want her ready for Barber the first of October. I'll try to update as often as possible. Wish me luck and offer up any and all advise, I'm gonna need it!

Color scheme: Black and white with red accents. LOTS of powder coating and some killer paint!

I didn't like the way the 360 frame started sloping up around the back braces so we are leveling the frame rails all the way back. Here the rest of the frame is braced off and it is marked to cut.

After some cutting. Now you can really see the slope.

I'm using perforated aluminum as accents in various parts. This is a rough draft of the left side cover. It'll prob change some before a final draft.

I didn't get pics of the frame rails extended as we jumped right into forming the seat pan. I'll snap some once its pulled back off.
More to come....hopefully!

Well today was good and bad. Seat pan idea to form it to the frame rails was a disaster. It bowed horribly and just in all turned out nothing like I had pictured. I guess it's on to plan B...as soon as come up with it.

On a brighter note I did get the hump cut out and ready to build. AND....I added another one to the stable. Been looking for a sweet 2 smoker!

Its actually high temp BBQ grill paint in gloss. I've had good luck with it in the past.
never seen high gloss BBQ grill paint, only flat black. and surely never seen it in white.

Well not much progress again but I didn't do an awesome experiment! After looking at what seems like 1,000,000 sets of rear shocks i couldn't find any that met my color, price, size requirements, or didn't require me to modify how the stock shocks mount. After some research I decided to try and dechrome my stock ones! 3 gallons of water, 1 gallon muratic acid and an electrolosis set up using my battery charger and away went the chrome! It was a blast and I found myself searching for anything chrome so I could keep playing! They turned out great and are now in primer and should be painted soon.

No more chrome!

Since my tail/seat idea is giving my fits I thought about trying this Cb750 tail i had laying around. It'll have to be sectioned to narrow it up for the 360 frame but I like the length. Just not sure about the shape of the rear cowl with the tank.

Opinions? Suggestions?

And Mowillie, this is the paint I used on the motor.

Hopefully lots of progress this week!

Well it's pouring down rain, 4 inches +, and I really don't feel like working so we are headed to the shop! Hopefully I can make headway on this seat pan/rear cowl. Wish me luck!

(Wife is gonna be pissed I started on the beer at noon but it gets the creative juices flowing! CHEERS!)

Do you have any instructions on how to do this? I'd love to get rid of some of my chrome!

Good looking build man ! I used that exact same paint on my bike, to black out almost everything ! It holds up pretty good too, I used the flat black ! Really looking forward to this build. I'm going all black, with maybe a stripped silver tank, and forks. I need to get more stuff done before i put up a build. Keep it up !
