Hello!
So I picked this up last year on Black Friday and am now able to start this project. I have already started the tear-down and decided on the direction as far as colors, etc... well at least for now! Never ventured into rebuilding a bike, my background is on old school toyotas, so hopefully I can pull from there a bit and get some help here as well. I have always wanted a cafe bike and was looking for the better part of 2010 for one I could build from the ground up and came across this one. Picked up for $350 with rebuilt carbs and brake calipers, a plastic rear seat (pretty sure Ill stick with it), and all the original parts. So here goes nothing!
Plans:
powder coat the frame and various other parts black
tank will be dark blood red
polish up the engine (black on other parts)
I like the pipes, will wrap with black header wrap
new tires, wheels black with new polished spokes
freshen up the gauges
new indicator lights (smaller)
cool rear sets
front and rear suspension all polished up
rebuild the engine (will have most of it done)
My first question for now is about the frame. There is a lot of stuff I know I wont need, and some parts I'd like to reinforce (rust spots). Is there a standard list of areas that are normally removed? For instance, I know I don't want the center stand, so will cut that off. Thanks for any help, this is where I am starting.
