Honda CB-1 Concept

I was searching for some parts for another project and came across a Kawasaki steering damper that I bought way back in the 80's. I know I had it but hadn't seen it in years. I used the stock mounting point on the GSXR lower clamp, machined off the kawasaki body mount and made a new floating bracket. The frame mounting bracket is just a piece of angle right now but I will incorporate the damper mount and the fairing mount later on.

I wanted to check bar to tank clearance before I started building the tank in aluminum. I put together this mock-up from 1/4" mdf. You can see how much volume I am going to lose to house the throttle bodies and plenum.

There are lots of unknows when doing major modifications to a bike in regards to the location of the seat, tank, bars, footpegs, etc. I like to try things out before committing to building time consuming parts. In that vein I first mocked up the subframe in PVC tubing first, then built a stronger one out of 3/4" pipe from Home Depot. The final version will be 1" OD aluminum tube, but the 3/4" pipe is close in diameter, and cheap. A 3' length is $8.

I also wanted to test out footpeg locations. I made these adaptor plates in a couple of hours that allowed the stock CB-1 peg assemblies to be installed and moved around quickly and easily. Once I decide where I want the pegs I will build some custom rearsets.
I am tall, and have bad knees, so whatever I build will drop the pegs as much as practical to gain peg to seat clearance.

I picked up some cheap footpegs off of amazon and wasn't particularly surprised that they didn't fit without some machining. Then I looked at my order again and realized that I ordered pegs for a CBR600F2. I was looking at a few different pegs and I guess I picked the wrong one. No big deal, I took about .040" off each outer face to get them to fit. They look better than the bent/rusty stock ones the bike came with.
