My first project. CM400 style.

You've made quite a bit of progress with it. Are planning to paint the seat and tank? How did you mount the turn signals and taillight?

I haven't quite decided wether or not to paint it. I have a friend who runs a local custom pain place, we keep tossing around ideas. I really like it bare metal, and he can put a coat or two of clear on it...but we also talked about giving it a kinda WWII jet fighter look, with the look of sheet metal and rivets. I can't decide. the turn signals were actually gonna be just temp. but I kinda like how they turned out. They are actually the stock rear signals. I removed the light and signals from the rear fender assembly. I'll post a pic of what I did....hard to put into words...easier to just show you. But I rilled a couple of holes in the seat pan and attached the brake light directly.
I next need to line the inside of the bum stop to water proof it. I plan on using it for storage of some small stuff.

Glad you like it. your's is coming along nicely too. by the way...are you gonna use your side covers? I thought about hiding the battery and electric under the seat....but I'm kinda weery about messing with the electric.

I already moved all of the stuff that's behing the side covers so there's no need for them now. Do you need some? I think the tank would look really cool if you polished the hell out of it and clear coated it.

Heck yeah!!!! I could really use a right side cover, what would you want for it? That wpuld freakin' rock!!!!
I figured I'd paint the side covers black and have the tank and cowl polished.

marc- the exhaust is an emgo shorty...I'm not too happy with it to be honest.
col- i have no idea what type of headlight this is, it was the first thing I bought the first week i owned the bike...the old one was nasty rusty and had a short in it.
srry, i don't know :-[

powder coat a clear over the top of the sheet metal... has a much less chance of yellowing in the UV rays... keep the bare metal that looks awesoem! love the strip on the top of the tank and how it carries through in the back of the seat! great work!

Yeah I have a set of emgo shorties on mine... so so at best... What about the header pipe, do you know what brand it is? I was looking for a 2 -1 for my bike...

marc-I'm gonna take a stab that its stock. At least that's what was on it when I got it. It still had the factory muffler so I guess the same goes for the pipe.
Thanx JRK. let me get everyones opinion...if I keep the bare metal should I paint the side covers black? to kinda "hide" them, if so, should it be flatte or gloss. I'm think gloss black...just spittin' ideas.

also...any ideas out there on what to do with this lid?

I need to do something with that "lid" space...anyone know where I can get the original plastic "lid" for this 750 tank?

Provide the measurements - looks very much like a CB750 tank lid, which I think I have one or two of.

Hey Memphis, this thing is looking great. I have a CM as well and I scored a free seat pan to make a new seat for it. I really like the way you made the factory tailights tuck into the rear cowl you built. I have been trying to decide what to do for the rear of mine and I might do something similar. I will have a different cowl but using the factory lights makes for easier wiring. I Like the bare metal and the way the tank and cowl have the same lines. Polish and clear is my vote.

What kind of tires did you get? I have been riding so much my almost new rear tire is almost worn now. I have put 2500 KM's on the bike in 4 weeks and still found time to paint it.

Cheers,
