Ho Ho it's Red for Christmas
Some of my red bling was applied today.
Note that a must is the red milk crate. Unfortunately the grips, belt and pegs are still to arrive. Also note the Santa lollies pot strategically hanging from the front blinker. It now appears to even stand faster!
Happy so far.But keen to see the finished product with the other parts fitted.

More "Go-fast-red"
In my ongoing pursuit of every poofteenth of speed via the use of "Go-fast-red", the Silver Bullet gets a leather belt! It's gotta be worth an extra poofteenth of a kmph!
I've also swapped out the stock "post-ride-refreshment-opener".
If nothing else I'm sure it'll open a beer much quicker than the stock item!

New boots for the Silver Bullet
Original tyres come off @ 6800kms. Rear had just hit wear tread and heading square. Obviously need to do more corners on the way to work!
I had no issue with the OEM tyres, They'd stuck well, a bit disappointed on the mileage though. New tyres were a set of Pirelli City Demons with a larger rear at 3.25" over the stock 3.00".
New tyres always remind you that the old ones were due to go. I was very surprised at the difference. One much larger than I've been used to on my larger bikes. Better all round!
As expected there's always a small group who would put their neck on the line for this tyre over that tyre, but frankly I believe life's too short to get too consumed by it all. The Pirellis are far superior to the OEM (as I would expect). I hope to get better milage on these then the OEM and who knows what I'll get next time round.

The Silver Bullet
Today's mods consisted of replaceing the CDI unit and "Go-fast-red" grips.
I've loaded a few pics. Note the "Go-fast-red" milk crate. Had to chase the Milko three blocks before I caught him. More evidence that RED goes faster.
While the pic may show to some that the CDI is blue, it is in fact RED with a blue tinge. Michael Bee did offer to do a "special order" and attempt to source a bespoked RED one from his suppliers. Dead set this bloke goes the extra mile! Another reason to shop local.
At best the CDI change is 5 minutes, however with prior planning and a nice day, you should be able to stretch it out to 3 or so hours plus looking time.
I'd previously moved the CDI and solenoid up under the seat when I gutted and moved the battery some time back. I used high temp/hold double sided tape to attach to the original CDI mount. It has plenty of space and gets good air flow over the cooling fins.
The verdict:
GREAT!! Smoother acceleration, no flat spots with a better torque curve. IMHO. I'm no expert, but again this little bike has proved that you can consistently made relatively inexpensive mods that improve its performance. And a huge thanks to people like Michael from Skyteam Canberra & NSW who put the hard work into sourcing, testing and fabricating the mods.

Last weekends mod was replacing the stock header and muffler. The muffler is a EMGO Hooligan 19". Unfortunately I think it's too loud. The header is very sweet and was manufactured by Skyteam Canberra & NSW.

Mikuni Carburetor
The final mod to square away the input / output was to replace the OEM carbie with a Mikuni. Completed this job this arvo and the total package of CDI, header, exhaust and carbie has produced a bike with considerably better performance. This set of mods is a must if you wish to stay with the standard engine but enjoy the tinkering to produce something better than stock at a reasonable price that is easily completed by the novice.
Here's the Mikuni on the left and the OEM on the right. I can breath easy now!

Hooligan 19" is just too noisy!
As previously mentioned I think the Hooligan 19" is too loud and has not ingratiated me to my neighbours. I've ordered a 42mm baffle hoping that I can modify to fit the exhaust.

In the interim I've constructed a cone from 1/2 inch square mesh rolled with baffle wadding mat. This has taken the sharp edge off the exhaust note and has not altered the performance as far as I can ascertain. No doubt any baffling will add a degree of increased back pressure, however having fitted, removed and refitted I am unable to notice any changes other than then a noticeable reduction in the top end note.

Twist the throttle!
Added a 1/4 turn quick twist throttle. The throttle twist fits into the standard housing. I should have done it a long time ago. Cost was around $15 from ebay.
