Project 1981 Twinstar (CM200T)

I bought this for my first bike about two weeks ago. I had ridden other peoples bikes off and on for years but finally wanted my own. That and I needed a winter project. I enjoy tinkering.

So here it is the day I bought it.

Bought a 75' CB200T tank.

Built the cafe' seat/tail last night. Not quit done yet.

Current state. As you can see I skipped a bunch of pics in fabricating the seat... maybe I do another post on that...

Thinking of painting in the metallic gold. Need to make the padded seat yet too.

I love the cb200 tank, no going wrong with that. One of the neatest production bike tanks made. Fantastic lines with those flat sides. I shoehorned one on my xs650.
 
I also dig the tank a lot, and like the metal seat, looking good man ! What color are you thinking about?
 
Way to go! Nice project.
I really like what you have done with the exhausts.
And the tank.
And your seat.
Rear sets will look great with those straight thru's.

Update:
Primed ready for paint. Building seat pad posted in seat/tanks section on colrof vynil for seat aged leather look or black.

I went with a black seat as the center of the tank is black... I forgot about that... I came up with a name for the bike. "Booty" as in it's gold like pirates gold? I was think if doin' a skull and cross bones on the tank.
 
Tada! Not done gonna do a black strip down the center in the back I think Allso the center part where the tank filler cap is.

Yes the pics suck... I rebuilt the seat as well, and bought some clubmans.

I like the black stripe you added, but just a thought on the seat pad, it looks really big, and I think it takes away from the gas tank / cafe seat. Not sure if you could shave it down, and still be comfortable? Love the direction your going with it though !

Do you mean too wide? Or too thick? I was thinking a bit thick as well. But it is comfortable like that. The seat is about 1.5" thick.... Maybe I should cut it in half.

That is what i had originally but thought it would be uncomfortable... Hmm... I will redo it and see what happens.
 
we use 1/2 inch on the race track but our sessions are lucky to be 20 minutes at a time and race leathers are a bit thicker than street jeans. 3/4 should be fine with teh right foam. Neoprene seems popular around here. I haven't tried it myself but will have to real soon.

A man with the same approach to parts sourcing as my own. ::) ;D
 
I had also pulled out some billet aluminum chunks. ;D About 2 years ago but have been hanging on to it. I figured out why yesterday. I lowered the front of the bike by raising the forks 1.25". Works great but my new clubman bars hit the forks sticking up. SO... I need to build a riser.

My milling machine consists of: 1) my two hands 2) a harbour freight cheap ass drill press 3) a makita grinder 4) a milwaukee battery drill 5) various drill bits, cutting and grinding wheels and 6) a file...

I will post pics of this process... ;D
