Pulverized magnesium in the tank?

Jack Wilson and Pete Dalio did this in the 50's...they would do anything to win. They had a bet with a competing dealer to race two stock bikes against each other. Jack tore down that bike that night without leaving a trace... New cam, valves, 12 to 1 compression. They won.

They cheated ::)

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but back in the day, people tried all sorts of crazy stuff to try to win races.

If it altered flame propagation rates, ignition timing would need to be altered to get peak pressure at around 15 degrees ATDC. Faster pressure rise helps to reduce pumping losses and that equates to more usable power.

i went back and read the article...it didn't say stock :) they did the hard work to win...I saw a quote on the devils arrow one time that said, "made in Britain made better in Texas."

We take magnesium when we back pack...when all else fail in the rain magnesium will ignite. Highly flammable....there is always one curious cat that would have a thought like hey lets try that...in our tank :)

I put magnesium through a car i took to the scrapyard years ago, if that counts

If it would get the ethanol out, I would consider it... :)

Funny, I must be getting old. I am fine with the level of performance on my bikes. I have never measured the acceleration either, so I wouldn't even know if I got the extra 1/100 of a second 1/8 mile time....

I seem to be at a point where I prefer my vehicles to handle and brake well. Nearly everything I own is fast enough (Mazda B3000 will not give you nosebleeds or snap your neck on acceleration either) for may situations, but my crisis' always seem to revolve around getting through the turn, or stopping quick enough.

So better brakes, better tires, better suspension pieces are more my priority than some gas treatment, or even a supercharger, for me. Even with my slow vehicles, I pass a lot of faster ones. Seems in the NY metropolitan area, top speed is not something you have room to test to often. Avoiding things and stopping seem to be tested constantly.

I live in an area with small 2 lane, winding roads. I ride faster through here with my NH750 then my 2 buddies, who have much faster bikes, a Ducati ST3s and a BMW 1200GS. They are slower then me accelerating, they are slower through the turns. I have quite a bit of fun pushing the 750 at 7 or 8/10's. They barely hit the 50% mark on their bikes. So as I said earlier, it is more fun riding a slow bike fast, then a fast bike slow. I have a fresh scrape mark on my kickstand on the CB360. We have an area that has really tight turns. Even if I had more HP, I could not of gone through the turn faster. Handling and brakes are more important for the ride around here.

Totally agree!

I have to ride harder and with more concentration on my 125 than on a more powerful bike, but I'm never happier than at 9/10ths on the winding roads, regardless of the actual speed.

Crazy
