Restomodding a 74 CL360

The bike starts now, but the right carb is not pulling any gas from the tank. As in, I turn the petcock on and no gas is going through the fuel line going to the right carb. Plenty of fuel going to the left carb. Not sure what's going on at this point. Looks like I'll be pulling the carbs again.

did you take line free from carb and open tap up? just to be sure it isnt clogged.

Yup, fuel started flowing when I did that. It just stops where the fuel line goes into the carb.

open her up, get a magnifying glass and a good light. you may have a barb or rough spot on needle or seat. not letting it drop down to allow flow.

Yea, I had the opposite problem of a burr in the seat preventing the needle from closing properly. I was dealing with an overflowing carb as a result!

How I diagnosed this was to remove the float bowl with the carbs still installed on the bike (yay allen head screws), and then turn on the gas while wiggling the float up and down. Gas should flow with the float down, and stop with it up.

Good luck!

Of course, I can't work on the bike until Saturday. The wife's CRV needs a new battery cable, so she's dropping it off and I have to pick her up this evening. And I'm taking the daughter to Maryland tomorrow evening, won't get back until after dark.

Pulling the carbs today. Ugh. The good news is the 82 CX500 I just got passed inspection, so I can ride her without having to look out for the police. I wish it would warm up and stay warmed up, at least we aren't getting any snow.

I pulled the carbs twice yesterday. First time I opened up the right carb, no gas in the bowl, and the part with the diaphragm was stuck. When I pulled it out, there was rust preventing the part from moving. I cleaned the rust off so it was able to move freely, reinstalled the set, and hooked up the fuel lines. Gas started flowing to both carbs. I kick started the bike, still no heat from the right cylinder. ???

The stuck slide wouldnt have any effect on the idle or the fuel flow. With everything installed. open the tap. place a plastic bowl under the carb. (to catch gas) crack open the drain screw on bottom of carb bowl. make sure fuel is flowing into the carb. You might have an internal clog in "port" twixed the fuel line barb and the float needle.

One thing I forgot to mention, there's no brass left on the floats. They're all black. There was fuel in both bowls the second time I pulled the carbs. Not sure if that makes a difference.

The black floats have no brass. they are foamed "plastic". Better than brass, as they will not leak or get sunk from filling with fuel....

Yeah, they aren't as pretty, though. I'd talk more but I have a leaky float to solder.

Prior to "cleaning" my carbs, they were all brass :o I ordered two carb rebuild kits from Amazon, and I'm hitting the Honda dealer for new floats (still available!!!) and seeing if they can get me some new carb boots for my 82 CX500. I hate waiting, but I believe both orders will be at my house at the same time. I may be picking up another bike with carb problems, we'll see.

New floats and carb rebuild kits on the way. Looks like Tuesday is the day they'll get to my house. No dice on the boots or the other bike. Feh. I've also decided to sell my beater 83 Magna V45. I need to clean her up and find a starter rebuild kit for her. The wife wants a bike now, too. She almost bought a Victory Jackpot last night.

The rebuild kit I got has some stuff I'm not sure fits my carb. The needle and a couple of other parts went in, but the main jet doesn't even look close to what I have. The slow jet is stuck in my carb, I sprayed some liquid wrench on it to loosen it up.

secondary main screws into the emulsion tube/jet holder
If slow/pilot jet is stuck you could have a problem as the cross drillings will be blocked and probably the actual hole as it's only 0.013"

The tapped brass piece came out, but the brass thing inside the hole is still there. How do I get it out? Or do I get it out? There's no slot for a screwdriver on it.

ETA My new floats should be here today.
