When taking the exhaust off. The whole underside of each exhaust was covered with oily grime. Also the foot peg bracket was covered in oil. Any ideas where the oil is coming from? I know once I remove the engine. I will find the leak. Just thought if you all could possibly know. It would give me a idea what I have coming my way.
The oil is coming from you exhaust. Just collecting and combining with the soot from burnt fuel, so looks like black oil sludge.

Hi guys, still here. Been going through some health problems but still tinkering on the bike. I noticed that the tank on the bike. Has a bracket to what I am assuming. Is to mount a Yamaha emblem to. My other tank is all decal.
Does anyone know what year and model this tank is for?

Thanks, I have a problem with the arteries going from my heart to my lungs. Plus the lower half of my right lung is heavily scared so it doesn't work. All in all I easily get pneumonia. So I usually end up in the hospital 2 or 3 times a yr.
I want to figure out which tank it is. So I can paint it the proper color. Then I will sell it.

It is in good shape. I am just not sure what bike it goes to. I have this tank with the original paint. All 350RD's I have seen have a Yamaha decal not a screw on emblem.

Is there a particular carburetor rebuilding kit. That is preferred over other kits?

As long as the kit is for your particular model/size carb you should be good to go. You might be able to get one from your local yamaha dealer
I recommend replacing only the rubber/paper gaskets and cleaning & reusing the brass parts. Typically the jets that come in those rebuild kits are junk.

Finally back at it again after a short trip to Michigan for family stuff. Last 2 nights I couldn't get to sleep. So I went out to the garage and worked on the bike. Now remove the motor and front-end. Then power wash the frame to get a good look at it. I haven't noticed any rust yet but the frame is covered in oil grime. Especially the lower part of the frame. I have loose parts strategically placed so not too mix them up. Tomorrow I will bag and tag and box up the parts. Hopefully I will also remove the motor.

I think you might be right on a 73 RD250. 72 had a screw on cap. 73 the emblem is foward and lower. What I have found is the tank color was gold/black. Want to make sure on color scheme. So I can paint tank and side covers the correct color. Then put them on Ebay.
