It's really not all that difficult. I would buy enough to allow a couple of failed attempts, tho.

So you'll need: approx 2 sq.ft. of vinyl for my 8" headlight... = 2 failed attempts before this one came out nice (being very picky). I ordered it on e-bay from a guy who sells it by the sqft, in 12" wide rolls.
- Scissors
- A spray bottle (I used Simple Green Surface Prep because I had it lying around)
- A squeegee (Mine is from a pinstriping kit I bought for $5)
- A heat gun
- Razor blade
- Lint free gloves / don't touch the back of the vinyl or glass

Take out the headlight from the bucket and remove all the chrome trim (write down the length of the adjusters so you don't have to re-adjust your headlight),

Cut out the vinyl to a little bit bigger than you need,

Clean the headlamp very well so there is no dust/bugs/whatever (I used brake cleaner and then surface prep),

Spray both the back of the vinyl and the headlight with some kind of solution... I used Simple Green surface prep from Can Tire, but I think you can use a spray bottle of water with a drop of dawn liquid detergent.
The previous step is so the vinyl doesn't stick to the glass right away, you'll never get the air bubbles out that way...

Place the vinyl on the headlight and squeegee out the spray from the center, working your way to the edges,

Gently hit the edges with the heat gun and roll them over with the hardest part of your squeegee, getting rid of the last bit of liquid and air bubbles,
You'll have to do some trimming with the razor at this point to get a nice edge.

Boom, yellow light.

Hard to tell with all the reflections but it is 2 nice straight edges...

I'll take pics or a vid of the process if anyone is interested next time... I do have a couple of extra beams lying around from the dirt bike.

Are you going to put some Hagon shocks on it to ride hard around corners or is it just to park out the front of a Starbucks to impress the straight acting homos with celtic arm tattoos? This checkered tape bullshit has got to stop..... :P

Haha. How do you really feel about it?

FYI it's not tape... I had it made out of vinyl and put it under the clear-coat (5 years ago).

The shocks aren't stock, the bike handles great, and if it feels like it needs to be upgraded I'll upgrade it.

You might be more interested in the dirt bike, considering your DT250.

Battery is dead in the bike so I figure while it's waiting...

The height of the gauges has always been an eyesore to me. On one hand I want that big 8' headlight as low as possible, but the gap that appears btwn the headlight and gauge cluster looks like crap...

So tonight I started the surgery. Will finish tmw...

Re-using the old mount because its easiest. Cut off the heads and bent the bracket for clearance around the tree.

The R6 Master cylinder needed to be re-mounted, so I made this out of some strap and threw some shrink wrap on it for the look.

Finally, my bro was throwing out some sweet letters (that spell "TEXAS"), so now my toolbox has some decorations...

This may not seem like much but makes a huge difference overall... IMO.

Re: Finally Painted...

If you are very carefull, you can use 1000grit to wet sand the bike perfectly smooth without going threw the clear and then lay your graphics and clear again.

Pieces are dry, laid back on the bike to have decals applied... but I havent gotten around to it yet. Just have one on there:

Anyone have advice for removing orange-peel and applying vinyls?
The plan is to wet sand with 2000 to get rid of the peel, then wash, dry and apply the vinyls... then clear 2 or 3 coats, and wet sand again.

Also, what's a good buffing compound (By Hand) for getting a good shine out of the clear?

Thanks.

Thanks, I ended up doing just that.
