Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
nice? im glad i posted on here because i pulled my carbs apart today and i have a rip in one of the diaphragms as well. does that patch look like its going to hold with the rtv?
Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
just put some on today. looks like it will work pretty good. went ahead and threw a thin layer on the carb boots and around where the petcock screws on. its been letting a few drops out. i have a 115 main jet and the other one beside it says 70. do you know the normal size for that one? ive seen it called secondary and idle jet.. i just say the one next to the main.
____correction____
so pulling out the manual it looks like the smaller one that says 70 is the primary main and the bigger one that says 115 is the secondary.. either way know the size?
Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
i have 70/115 so im going 68/110 first. just getting a little to much gas. im running pods and pipes with baffles in them. everything would say i needed to go bigger but the plugs dont lie. it is running a bit better now that ive stripped it down cleaned them and lubed everything up. just seems to be getting a bit to much gas.
Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
pulled the bowls and reset them. they were off from each so that was one issue. no leaks there. definitely needed the cleaning though. actually sprayed the pods as well and the water from them was black. couldnt even tell. guess it being my daily ride puts it through more than i thought. tightened everything up and checked for leaks but couldnt see anything. guess i wont know till i mess with the jets
Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
those pistons cam in.
super fast shipping.
the bad news is that there is an exclusion in the casting......LAME!
i emailed the seller and he says that he had sold hundreds of that brand piston and never had that happen so he is just sending me another set.
i thought it was great customer service, i just hope that i really was just un lucky
we will see...
Re: Slowly going from the street to the track.....well maybe
the replacement set of pistons came in thursday.
well one of those had an exclusion on the bearing surface of the pin...
but either way i now have a set of pistons that will work.
i still need to order a timing chain, guide and gaskets.
so i worked and moved some stuff around so i had all day to day in the shop.
mostly it went rather smoothly...
new pistons and bores went together well.
fresh gaskets and seals looked great
finaly came up with an easy way to get the cam in the motor.
adjusted everything and took my time to make sure she started right up....
THAT DIDNT HAPPEN
from sitting one of the floats is stuck so it was poring fuel every where.
some connection is flacky with one of the points but im sure thats a simple fix.....
but whats not a simple fix is the fact that the valves are leaking!
normally i "snow ball" projects and wind up doing EVERYTHING just for piece of mind, but this time i just put the head back on a went for it.
it looked like the valves were seating fine. i had measured the pistons when i removed then and there were well out of spec
I had even thought about lapping the valves while i was there.....
while the goal for this bike is to one day go to the track the motor that is in it will not. the plan was to use this motor on the street for the summer while im collecting other parts.
maybe swap on the front end this summer and such
the Type1 motor will be used for the track.
anyway i already pulled the motor and got the head off.
i have valve tools and lapping compound and will be ready to hit her again tomorrow.
