So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(50+ Build Links!)

Looks like a stock CB tank (450), I believe the later versions had the knee dent look to the sides, compared to the earlier models.
 
yes, it's a cb450t tank from 1982....my bike has been through a lot since that picture. should be street legal within the month and ready to ride.

Hey all I am looking to replace my front caliper with an upgrade...I saw on one of the posts what looked like a brembo but any tips or leads would be much appreciated. I have a 1978cb400tii
 
Fixing the previous owners mess up

I bought a 78cb400t that I am turning into a brat style and the more I dig into it from the previous owner the more I seem to find that he jacked up on it. My latest discovery is that I think this was supposed to have a push pull throttle right? He only has one throttle cable currently. I also found that he disconnected the choke. Does anyone have a picture they could post of what theirs looks like? I have the clymers manual but the pic doesnt really seem that clear. Also if you could confirm that it is supposed to be a push pull throttle cable that would be awesome too.

That's not uncommon. I removed the "push" cable from my bike, too.
 
no,sounds like a bad cable/cable binding or spring on carb. Its just for the return.
 
So what did you end up doing for the brake linkage set up I have seen you thread before and have tried to make sense of it but have never been able to get a clear idea/ view of how you worked around it. I need to rig something up on my Nighthawk build and I know the frames are similar as far a shape and peg placement. Thanks and you built a great looking bike thats for sure. I am in Mesa If you ever want to go ride to canyon lake hit me up for it.

Anyone know what carb Justin used on his 400? I'm wondering if its just an FCR 39?

EDIT: probably a 41ish, hmmmm that would eliminate any tuning problems. they are a breeze to setup

Just getting started on my cb400 build. Between work and school I don't have too much time but every bit I do have is dedicated to the bike. I'm leaning rat/cafe/brat masheup right now, but who knows where this thing's goin!
 
Did someone figure out how to run pods on these things?

I've been away for a while - this was a major issue when I was building mine, I had a hell of a time tuning the carbs from 0 all the way up to half throttle. My 400t's just been sitting for about a year now, I had intended to re-install the factory airbox.

I gave up trying to tune for pods. I upped the jets and shimmed the needles. It didn't seem to make much difference. In the end, I decided it was more important to get the bike running right rather than looking cool. If you are going to run pods I think you need to get good ones, i.e. K&N. The cheap ones (that I had) block airflow due to their design. Someone (maybe Sonreir or CrazyPJ) did a nice writeup on why these things don't work. If I had the money I would love to try converting over to Mikuni carbs and K&N pods. Some people seem to get them working, but I'm not sure how.
 
if you read the thread i posted you'll see there were two, or more, different carbs that came on the CM's a three jet style and a two jet style. This makes a huge difference in the decision to go to pods.
