T250 Carb Trouble

Been Around the Block
I have been battling carb trouble on my Suzuki T250 project. It will only idle with the choke on. It dies when the choke is closed or the throttle is opened even slightly. Running with the filters on or off makes not difference. I checked for leaks by spraying carb cleaner on all possible leak areas and it makes no difference. I have the side air bleed screw almost all the way in and that helped to where I am now. Also, I got to this point by raisinjg the slides about as far as I can go with the cable adjustors (this model of Mikuni VM has no idle adjustment screw which moves the slide). The carbs have been thoroughly cleaned and blown out with compressed air. The floats are adjusted properly.

I am at a loss.

II have the factory jets. The bike ran on them last year, even without air filters. It will not run properly with or without them. I hope it is not the crank seals.

Timing has been set as well. If it was the timing why would it need the choke on to run?

On choke, the mixture is richer. If spark is delayed (wich i was thinking) it can fire the mixture easier because of ratio. Now clean the right one and ride the sucka!

Right side is clean and now it does not start unless I squirt fuel down the throats and then it revs like crazy. I shut it off and then try to restart, but nothing unless I squirt fuel down the throats. Bowls are full. Stumped.

Buy two new pilot jets and try again. :-)

Oh, and drop the slides so that they are just cracked open. To far open and there's not enough velocity or pressure drop to pick up fuel at low revs or starting.

I tried spraying carb cleaner and starting fluid down the throats (at different times and it behaves just like it does with fuel is squirted. It idles at 2500 and then climbs through 7,000. If I flip the choke off, it settles in at 3000 and responds to the throttle before dying.

just curious, but have you resealed the crankshaft?

Not yet. Prior to my taking the bike apart, but not the engine, it had no signs of crank seal leaking. That is my fear. Even now, when it runs, it doesn't b;low smoke. Could be on the dry side as that carb responds to the fuel squirting more than other side.
