T500 2stroke Oil Consumption

No Kop,

Many feel that Mr Jennings was wrong or at least that he's Old Testament, and out of touch with new math. Guys that worked on GP two strokes were way ahead of what Mr J started. Dr Blair made a huge contribution and others have built on that work.

And yet in the face of solid scientific facts, some still believe that less is more. Must be that new math BS. More is still more when it comes to oil and power ( up to a point and that point is around 12-16:1)

I must confess that I have not read the old testament, or jennings' theories......but are you saying, Teazer, that a stroker generates more hp with more oil up to 12/16-1?
That is contrary to what I always thought. I'm sure I read somewhere that some racers had a device for turning the pump off, so that they could gain a few extra horses on the last lap for a bit of a charge. It would have scared me silly, to be honest.......

Correct Titan,

What Jennings did was to test a MX motor with different levels of Fuel: oil ratios and his results showed that as teh amount of oil increased, so did top end power. Let's not confuse our casual readers into thinking that's a good idea for slow running street bikes burbling along on a whiff of throttle.

Higher amounts of oil (lower ratio numbers) led to cleaner pistons, less wear and more top end power.

Piston Ported 100cc karts run 16:1 nd some drivers go up to 12:1 but at that level there's an awful lot of oil to burn and it does have a minor effect on flame speed and octane levels but hose are secondary effects.

I can see the rationale for less oil - it allows more fuel and therfore more power - NOT. Or that oil creates viscous drag between components and with less oil there would be less oil and more power. That's 4 stroke logic misapplied but not totally incorrect in a race bike that will be basically thrown away or rebuilt after the race - if it finishes.

Given that the Suzuki 250 V4 was known as Whispering Death, I'm not sure I would have tried that trick. And more to the point, there's no spare bike waiting for me to destroy in my next race to Starbucks.

Jennings debunked those old wives tales and proved that more is more. AG Bell has some thoughts on that too.

On a street bike, just keep the oil pump and use a good quality low smoke 2 stroke oil and at least that part of the equation is taken care of.

I will certainly be keeping the injection system on my bike. initially I was going to run it with pre-mix but heard that the T500 center crank bearings don't like it.
