The Norda

In preparation for my tank to get here tomorrow I re-mounted the engine with the head, valve cover and carbs mounted. It's tight, but I don't think there willbe any clearance problems.

I'm debating how I want to do the exhaust on this. I have 3 options, 4-4, 4-2, or 4-1. Off the shelf isn't going to work since it's not in the stock frame. 4-1 is tempting just because it'll cost less, mufflers are spendy. 4-2 would look more balanced and easier to make headers for. But 4-4 is just classic cb750, headers about the same as the 4-2 to make, but 4 mufflers. I could probably make mufflers, but I'd probably spend almost as much as just buying them to do that. I'll probably wait until I have it on the wheels to decide, but I have to start thinking/saving now.

4 into 1 would be classic, but 4 into 4 is more CR750 and 4-2 would look more like a twin in that frame. In other words, and choice will probably look great.

For the oil tanks, a clean version of the classic Manx/Triton central oil tank might look nice but they often do not appear to fit very well, so that might be a challenge. It might be easier to fabricate a carbon fiber rear fender with combined oil tank.

I'm probably going to do a central tank. A lot of them mount with a single long bolt at the rear, and rubber bands at the front. I'll make my own so I can size the fittings properly for the CB engine vs adapting to the british lines.

Battery is getting tucked behind the engine. Fuse box will probably go under the seat hump for accessibility.

I'm thinking I might get some card stock and make paper versions on reverse cone mufflers. That'll let me decide which I think looks better with minimal investment.

4-2 or 4-4 is my vote but who the hell am I.

I don't care for a 4-2, just because. I like a 4-1 for the functionality aspect of exhausts. However, in this case, I think 4-4 is the correct answer.

You are going to get as many opinions as there are responses. To me it seems like a 4-2 would work best w/ the vintage look of the rest of the bike, 4-4 would be out of place and 4-1 would be too modern. There, now you have another opinion!

This is the only cb750 powered featherbed I found searching on google. I think the 4-4 doesn't look out of place. I do think a 4-1 wouldn't look right.

OK, I can see it. Going w/ 4-2 would be giving the "nod" to the overall classic Norton look of the thing that "just happens" to have a Honda lump hanging in there below the tank. Doing the 4-4 gives a bigger nod to the "Hondaness" of the build.

Yeah. I'll wait until I have it on wheels with foot controls set up to decide. 4-4 might be tight on space, while 4-2 might be easy. I just know I need to think about it.
