THE RD FROM HELL

Nice work Brad. I love that you are not afraid to try something and if it doesn't work, let it go. It's so easy to get anal about parts and becaome paralyzed by fear of wrecking the one good part that came on the bike.

BTW. How thick is that new oil tank? It looks very thick in the picture but that may just be a perspective effect. I tend to look at a stock oil tank or fuel tank and then search for one size thinner than stock. ;-)

I went with a little thicker steel 1/16 i think. the reason is it gonna be hard to fix if it desides to leak so i really poured the heat to it to get the best weld poss

Good stuff Brad - if beer consumed correlates with productivity, then why the f aren't you finished yet?? lol

If all i worked on was my bike it would be done but part of having friends is helping them so ever once in a while ill throw a night or two at a seat or battery box for someone it will all work out in the end. the baby birds and the flowers of spring will still choke on burnt golden spectro

Hey just went through your thread.......the beer and endless changes made laugh my ass off. I have done each and every one of those moves plus a hundred more. :-[ but learning the whole way through

There should be a place where guys can share ideas and tips for building bikes so we dont repeat the same mistakes over and over..........sorta like a web, with a forum and then you could go on your computer and talk to guys whom also are interested in....you get the idea, I was trying to be funny

its so fucking simple , but we make it so hard. Everybody and their dog is a fucking pro with all kinds of macro ideas with micro measurements on a machine that had tolerences in the tens. Hold on now I sound like one them
form follows function means you put the engine in hook up the suspension, and wrap the metal around whatever needs to be hidden.
I am glad to see you return to the mono(weight-cost-handling). I was sad to see you lopped off the motor mount. I was confused by your OCC brace job on your shock mount.....must have been a big drinking night
throughout the whole experiment I feel your need to stay with straight line of the tank was a tasteful choice, and I totally see where you want it to go, and you obviously have the skills to get there. Now spend twelve solid hours on it and finish it you fucking dreamer :)
With my hybrids I was trying to build a lighter, faster, better handling, cheaper to own.RD. With that fucking loudmouth mission statement, I was fortunately hand cuffed to the ninja parts because they were so affordable and plentiful. I have used FZR $$$ and shitty brakes without great weight savings, and I see other guys putting R1 front suspensions, and believing somehow that a 500 pound bike front end is going to be an upgrade on a 280 pound bike. The ninja stuff works beautifully due to fortunate mistakes of fate.
I loaded some mount photos, the first is an aluminium plate no weld version that I tweaked by welding a tube on the backside of the motor mount that I poorly illustrated in orange.
the second is the mount plus reinforcement attached to the back , although I feel it is just there for peace of mind.

Thanks for your input man i was kinda worried about the whole rear of the bike hanging on one pipe thats why i put the occ brace on. it in fact is the rear of another rd frame. All along i thought i was over building the whole thing but whats done is done. Being that its my first linkage style mono shock i didnt want to under est. the job i was asking a section of pipe to do. Your bikes show that i was wrong haha. Where the hell was you a few months ago. anyway hang out ill keep the mistakes commin. one more question what if any work needs done to the bady ninja swingarm pivot. and what is the center ta center lenght

Good god im slacken. i got drunk and worked on my rd, not always the best idea. anyway alot of grinding later i got a course of action the rear lower frame rails are just held on with c clamps at the moment but you can get a good idea of my thoughts. hope its not to occ for ya the upper rails will end up a few inches longer and ill blend them in to the seat somehow what ever its 715 am im done

Those are some great curves man. What I really like about it is that the downtubes terminate above the rear shock. Adds a really nice industrial look to it. Love it dude!

just an idea and I'm not trying to complicate your " process" but some of these tabs welded on your frame so you could un bolt rear sub-frame......
