UPcoming locO project...

You're building this in addition to the Triumph? Two springers?

no.. actually I changed directions on that..
I dont want 2 bobber chops both with Girders...!!...
The girders that I had for this project will find itself on another DTT Members' xs650 bobber soon.

Since the triumph had the Girder forks on them already, Ive decided to use the stock forks on this build...
I want something a little different!!.. No fun having/riding 2 bikes that look kinda the same.

Infact on this build, In gonna use the mags, but paint them entirely black...

does this meen you have a spare engine? ;D

hell ya.. there are certaily more than a few spare xs650 motors and engine parts kicking around the shop!!..

I love those mags anyway... i think that mags are very under used now a days... alot of cool things can be done wiht them

I totally agree.. I want something a little different!!

Man.. Im glad we have the same vision ;D

with your other bob being black have you thought of doing anyting diff with this one? maybe white or do a traditional style bobber colors of flat black and red wheels, only doing the spokes of the mags in black or red and the lips in the opposite color? with as easy as it is to mask mags you should get a bit wild with it... hell you can get some pinstriping tape and even tape off the polished edges of the spoke parts and shoot it so it looks like it is flowing thought he whole wheel... i think flat black with gloss red would look dope (or reverse with flat red and gloss black)

I like the way you think. There is no reason to have two of the same style bikes.

Regarding the mags, I also agree you're on the right track. I have very similar wheels on my RD400 and powdered them black. I love the way they turned out...even if they are a bit heavy!

I know that keeping the colour scheme simple seems to be the style but what about adding some retro flavour to the bike. Nothing too crazy but something with some big ole flakes in it. Just thinking out loud, but lately I've been feeling that a huge pop of colour on a bike is where things are going.

and is it me or have those 650 become harder to get. Before you'd trip for next to nothing but nowadays they've all gone underground. I just love the look of those engines.

mags can be very cool
just look at what ardcore did for bad penny

Nothing new on this build yet...
Still finishing off the Triumph build...
BUT.. Ive decided to use the BSA tank on his build...
Threw the tank on the frame to see what it looks like.. voila:

I definately like this set up better than the Sportster tank that I was going to use originally:

Everything for this build is all ready to go.. all the parts collected, donor bike is ready to taken apart...
I just need to finish up the Triumph then tear into this baby...

Once started, this will be a 3 day build... hopefully.. ;D

I am liking the vision behind this build. The BSA tank looks good on there, I like the triumph tank on your other build.

Keep it up.

thanks.. I think I'll keep the Triumph completely triumph...
This build will be a quick and dirty build with a mish-mash of everything... including parts from here and there...

OK, OK. The BSA does look better on this one. I'm still not sold on the Triumph tank, but I'm sure you'll prove me wrong.

Re: UPcoming locO project... **Finally some progress**

Finally some progress on this build…

The builders:

Tony D
Paul Dutra
Myself

We started working on this project today at 9am finished at 10:30 pm… what a long day

The plan for Day 1 – Transfer all the main parts from the donor bike and
- Get front end off the donor XS and put on to the hard tail – install new tapered steering bearings & upper/lower races
- Get back end off the donor then on to the hard tail – Make it into a rolling chassis
- Handle bars on to the hard tail along with controls
- remove and put motor into the hard tail
- Mount the kick stand tabs
- Mount the brackets for the electrical box – made from an old oil can
- Mount the seat

Starting point:

We had issues mounting the lower steering races and needed the proper race press… So while waiting for the press to arrive I worked on the mounting the back end
- Thanks to Vinnie for lending us his press for this build.

By now its about 10:30.. we are all tired, hungry and decide to call it quits for the night...
Gotta go plan for day 2...

Wow.. what a day... Great progress

Plan for day 2:
- Pull wiring harness from donor bike.
- Pull coils, reg/rectifier from donor
- re connect the carbs to the motor
- mount the coils, reg/rect
- figure out the wiring harness & wire up the bike minus the turns
- install headlight bucket
- build mounts for the tank
- Design the exhaust

That falcon bike is soooo right. my god. Im thinking of using the same tires as that build for mine. You think having the ribbed rear tire (same as front in that photo) would handle well?

Love the bsa tank as well. Bars look alittle to dropped, but that tank is killer
