This has been an interesting thread. I never really thought about laces being to big of a problem but now I am rethinking what I ride with.

I guess I am a glove whore. I own several different pair. I choose which pair I put on based on whether I am planning on a nice spirited ride on the street, just a cruise to the store, or track day. But they are all proper riding gloves. With palm padding and pre-curved fingers I think you will find they are even more comfy than your work gloves, providing you get the right size of course. For everyday riding I usually wear a pair of short alpinestars (white in color). Work gloves will give some protection just be aware of their limitations.warner6616 said:

There's all manner of colors out there. I like cf armored mesh gloves, but they are only good for one season. I've owned Joe Rocket, Icon, A Stars, and AGV. My full gauntlet AVG race gloves have outlasted all of the gloves I have ever bought. They are ugly, black with yellow hard Kevlar armor and yellow Kevlar stitching. Even the literature that came with them stated that the gloves are not designed for fashion! Ha! This year, I plan to buy a pair of shorty mesh gloves, only leather. Don't really have a brand in mind... My Icon riding boots have laces, but they are covered up by an armored buckle. I don't really wear street shoes because I don't usually ride somewhere where I have to leave my bike in a public place. It's a habit I picked up over the years. I got tired of people fucking with my machines. I'm sure some of the members here who have been riding a long time have experienced this. Probably a good topic for a thread "People found messing with your bike". :-D

Been Around the Block
Picked up a set of the Dainese Scarpa D boots back in April, great boot. Comfortable enough I can wear them all day long but protective enough I am not worried about wearing them for a decent ride on the bike. Looks like the price has jumped up since then and when I got them they were half off. Highly recommend them for someone who is out hitting the turns rather than the track.

Best money I've spent in a while. Was able to wear them walking around VMD at Mid-Ohio for an entire day like I was in my Nike's. I've also verified they are definitely waterproof! I wear a 10.5 and the 44 fits me perfectly.

Here is a clip from a video I have up on youtube where I fall off a CB350 at relatively slow speed (about 40mph). I was wearing "racing boots" from Technic. I broke the small bones on the inside of my right ankle any ways and ripped the ligaments off my foot. Imagine if I had on contractor boots.
My new boots are the most expensive, protective boots I could find. I went with Sidi Vortice boots with external bracing to resist the rotation/ripping and the impact. I also bought hightop style Joe Rocket Super Street boots for casual riding, but wear the Sidi boots more.

BTW, the previous owner of my Husqvarna lost the pinky and ring finger on his left hand when his gloved hand entered the still spinning front wheel during a lowside. He was wearing Mechanix gloves.

Picked up a pair of these in 2008 down in Tellico Plains at Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters www.tellicomoto.com - first and foremost, Michael, the owner, is a fantastic guy and it's a family business. I was wearing some crap old leaky Joe Rocket boots I bought used years earlier, and decided I needed new boots for the remaining 6 days of riding ahead.
Found the shop online as one of the only local shops near the Cherohala Skyway (he's right at the one end of it). I left my old boots up on a shelf in his shop and my buddy and I each bought a pair of these.
They're Gore-tex lined, full mesh construction and tough as nails. I've crashed in them and would have broken my left ankle in shoes or lesser boots (i.e. any boot without ankle armor and the right structure to keep your foot from flopping around and snapping like a twig).
4 years later and they're the only boots I ride in on a regular basis. When I ride my wife's TU250X around the block, I might toss on my Blundstones or even my Converse, but that's for 5 minute runs up to the 7-11.
