Your fastest and on what

tWisted...... some would say that 100mph on a classic bike is crazier than 150 on a new sport bike. I think my running remark might have been misunderstood. I meant running from trouble.....like.....you know....I am a puss. I would NEVER think of outrunning the law..... that is ILLEGAL and socially irresponsible.

Yeah dew, I did not mean it was any more responsible or safe to drive a vintage machine at those speeds, just saying I get the same rush from it! As for your running remark, I understood your context, I was only replying to bikers post on the toggle.

I had a toggle switch for my tail and a magnetic tag flip that I fabed up myself on my CBR929RR. When you thought a situation was about to arise, just reach back and flip the tag up, flip the toggle on the tail light, and twist the throttle!

Like I said before though, I was 19-21 when I had that bike, I thought I was superman, and I could never be caught or be killed. I never even thought of those things. I did very stupid things so I am amazed I may it through hose years. I am not concerned about if Louie believes my claims of speed (mine being around 180), I think that anyone who has ever ridden a serious sport bike will know that those speeds are easily obtainable. I never got my CBR to a top speed (where it was red lined) but I know that it was not much more than the 180 mark because that is about the point where the bike stopped climbing at a decent rate. I did do most of this type of riding on public roads, but I live in a rather rural area and had places to ride where traffic was rarely seen during the hours I was riding at those speeds. I am an adult now that makes much much better decisions, and would never drive or act that way again. I do still love speed, so I believe that is my allure to vintage bikes. Doing the ton on a small cc vintage bike is more like that 150 mark on a sport bike.

I just bent up my plate! Ha! I got pulled over by Sheriff's Deputies once on my way to school. I was on my lime green ZX9R, number plates painted on the upper and tail, sponsor decals on the lower, license plate bent to almost horizontal, with green plastic (from a Mountain Dew liter bottle) covering the plate (supposed to obscure laser gun?), and full Muzzy Race exhaust. They spotted the bike, who wouldn't? - and then the plate which gave them reason to pull me over. I told them I bent the plate cause "It detracted from the lines of the bike". Ha! Yes, I actually used that as an excuse. They, uh, didn't buy it, but thought it was creative bullshit and had a chuckle. I got away with a warning and had to bend the plate back down. You and I and almost every sportbike rider I've known personally share the same experiences and love of extreme speed. I've learned that a lot of car guys, cruiser guys, and non-riders really have no idea what a modern sportbike is capable of... until they see it, that is! :-D Yeah, for me, those days are pretty much over. I don't think I had my Buell XB12R much over 100 mph in the year I owned it ('07-'08). Of course, this doesn't mean I wouldn't want to own another race rep!

tWisted, just jerkin' your chain, I like to go fast and race anything, even scooters are fun if you and your pals are zipping through curves neck in neck at 25MPH....nose down on the handlebars and tucked in for speed !!!! As for me running..... I didn't want to be thought of as brave.....since I am such a sis.....hehehe.

That's pretty much what I did with my Buell. It is supposed to be great handling, so I was determined to see if it was true. It is! Most of my riding on it was on tight twisties. Frame geometry based on 250 GP bikes. Bonus!

Not the fastest - but possibly the most exhilerating - bordering on frightening.

16 years old [ 1960 ] and just legally able to ride on the roads - on my Dad's Triumph T110 trying to break the ton going downhill on a narrow lane. Haven't got a clue if I did reach the ton or not - my eyes were firmly on the road - and looking out for tractors, horses, etc. that might be in my path.

Reject...... I know what you mean about a Buell's handling ability. Some day I may buy one. Eric really got the shaft from HD..... and I think it will cost them in the long run. All us old fart Harley riders are dying off or quit riding and they have very little to offer the youth market.

Wow... This thread is somethin' else. Im not going to doubt anyones speeds. You wanna' believe it, cool. I certainly wasnt there to check.
This thread instantly makes me think of Kanticoys "A Few Words" thread though.
Im not sure why so many folks here seem so keen on starting shit nowadays.
If youre willing to post up your "top speeds" among a bunch of riders, you have to be willing to get called out. Anyone whos been around fast machines for any time knows the game.
One guy says "I did this" and there will always be another that calls bullshit. Deal with it.
As far as the drunk driving/riding comments, c'mon... This place is better than all that mess. You wanna' be a d-bag and risk my or anyone elses life, better not let me find you first.

Right on von, I am with you on drinking and driving. I love to drive and being Irish, I love to drink.....but I NEVER mix the 2...........NEVER! And I am thankful that this has always been my policy, even in my young and stupid days!

Agreed! I wouldn't want to be Irish and drive both at the same time. Being Irish and drinking? This thread is in danger of morphing into ethnic stereotyping! :-D All kidding aside, I am firmly against mixing alcohol with activities such as motorsports. Hell, I quit snowboarding with a couple of guys from work after they started taking liquor with them on the slopes. Really pissed me off.

Who cares about what I do or don't believe. What I can say is that I don't imagine I'll ever hit many of these speeds.

When I hit my fastest speed ever, (130 on a modified Yamaha FZ600), it was flat out scary. The bike was surprisingly stable, but I feared my own eyesight and reaction time. My reason for backing off was that I realized I might not be able to react in time if something happened. While I was on public roads, I was in the middle of nowhere without a car or building in site. Just me, a straight road, and a buddy on his GSXR. It will still a pretty big "what if" though, and I didn't want to find out the answer.

I know the modern sport bikes can handle 170+, my nuts can't. And I'd rather pay for my kids college with my salary/savings and not my life insurance policy. I've also spent a few nights in jail. It's not as comfortable as home and I wouldn't advise spending much time there.

This is my last post on this topic..... Let me get something straight, I do not advocate drunk driving or riding in any form....period. Yes, I do have friends who drink and ride. If that makes me a dirt bag so be it. Yes, I will have a couple of glasses of wine or two beers when I go to a winery (one of my favorite things) or to a biker bar (another fave of mine). Now if this makes me some kind of criminal, baby killer, or wife beater.... then that is what I am. I am not doing anything illegal or, in my mind, morally wrong. A breathalyzer and law book prove me correct. I did a little joking earlier just to raise a few eyebrows....man, some of you guys can't take a joke...... slightly bad taste or not. A couple of you have even.....maybe...made a threat or two. Well...... I plan on being at a few cafe racer get togethers this year and hope to meet many of you there. Von and Louie....... I will bring one of my riding buddies with me who likes to drink and ride. He is easy to spot so you will see him before you see me. Six foot seven and about 280 lbs...... and.....uhhhh......he will probably have a beer in his hand. Even drunk he is an excellent rider. Perhaps you both would like to take your frustrations and hatred of his ilk out in person....or not. Meanwhile this IS DTT.......so let us leave this unpleasant subject and have more stories about guys going fast....... now THAT is real entertainment !!!!!!

Whoa man... Whoa...
I certainly never said anything about fighting anyone, or hatred. My point was that riding drunk is fucking stupid and dangerous to you and others. Having a beer or two is not what Im talking about. Being drunk is. Its wrong. Dont care what you say about that.
As far as your buddy being "an excellent rider when drunk"... Fuck that. If hes riding around me, and plans on getting all hammered up Ill certainly tell him what I think.
I dont feel like getting run off the road by some guy, no matter how great of a rider he (or you) thinks he is when hes drunk, or even worse watching him hurt someone else.
And while on the subject, way to play the "my dads tougher than you" bullshit. Nobody threatened you physically, yet you feel the need to threaten to sic your buddy on me. Again, I call bullshit.
You have proven yourself to be a little minded person. Thats a shame man. I would've loved to meet up with ya in person, as thats a big part of why Im here.
As of now though, I dont think I could stand to be around you, seeing as you apparently feel the need to belittle, threat and intimidate. (Or at least have your friends do it for you.)
That sucks.
I never meant any ill will towards you or anyone else. If we do meet someday, Id hope to be able to put all this crap in the past and actually make another friend thanks to DTT.
Apparently Ill be too busy waiting for your friend to be an idiot or try to start shit with me though. Super. Way to go man.
And best of luck to said friend. I honestly hope nothing bad happens to him, but expect it will some day.

well said mike. The subtext here is ridiculous, this is supposed to be fun but not a threat thread. That being said....I yes that makes me your big scary friend. ::)
unreal......

Jesus this got insane fast. Everyone chill, go see a cool movie or something. If you haven't seen it yet I'd highly recommend 'Tron - Legacy'.
