I believe his name is Jeff Willis. Where are you located? I'm in Ashland.

The CSI in me says it hit square on and those sanctions are no match for a decent hit... then it went air bound and came down on the rim, that would do the deal on the little tube swinger for sure... the story is these are built as race reps with headlamps so those parts are lightened up, the frame is likely OK if you lift the tank and see no damage under the head stock, that thing is a noodle anyway so making it straight wunt be a problem... too much money though, offer $1500 or walk.

if it hasn't been disassembled and measured how would you know. It could be bent, but not to the naked eye. If it was wrecked bad enough to bend both ends with the forks and the swing arm it makes the frame suspect also. Again, too much money for bent crashed parts.
I wouldn't pay $2500 for it, that's for sure. But it was listed for sale back in November of last year, so I assume he'd be more willing to negotiate after this much time. Here's a link to some guy talking about the patina of this particular bike.

the only time patina is valuable is when it is on an original survivor machine that everything on it is original. In this case the patina, as mention in the article, just means very used.

it is a tiny little very slow bike a dated 2 valve pushrod 250 nobody wants a 250 they are virtually worthless compared to a big block 500 a feller could find a good/much better british 500 or 441 for that money

I agree. But sometimes I like the bikes that show their age, gracefully. The RE doesn't particularly hit that mark.

I appreciate all the input from everyone though. Definitely good to get second and third opinions since I'm prone to impulse purchases.

Couldn't agree more!

No one much wanted them back in the day, even less reason to bother with one now.

Crazy

And another gem: '78 CB550 for $8500. Ad includes one arty shot where you can't see much of the bike (except it's got no fork brace or fender) and a far away shot where... you can't see much of the bike. As the ad states: "Bike speaks for itself."
