"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

Anyone feel like grabbing a $2000 basket case of a CB750 with no title?

2K is steep, but if it really is a 3.5K bike and all the parts are there and accounted for... I might have to consider making an offer, the savings in repairs would add up quickly and shine is mostly labor so I doubt you would realize a loss.

And another gem: '78 CB550 for $8500. Ad includes one arty shot where you can't see much of the bike (except it's got no fork brace or fender) and a far away shot where... you can't see much of the bike. As the ad states: "Bike speaks for itself."

I hope it sells for that, but only if donor bikes stay below the first one :-\

I went and looked at his collection. It was ridiculous. All kinds of rare bikes. I also found out he recreates molds for cast parts on old British bikes, and sells them all over world. Really cool guy.

Overall the bike doesn't look half bad, but it isn't worth what he's asking.

It looks like it's ridden and not taken care of.

The price is on point for the bike if he took the time to keep it up and spent more time to detail... Can it be built for less then the price? I don't think so, if you want to buy and ride one of these you will have to pay up... if it's the making it your own project you seek, the price will be the same or more over time and you will never get the labor out

Re: "Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

I can't argue with the part about labor. Just not what I'd be looking for in a bought not built bike.

eBay but who wouldn't he happy to have this in the living room

This has to put me up for some kind of reward for finding this:

Yes, it's the (in)famous "café brat!" Or, as the description in the ad states, the (in)famous "Bratcafe café racer brat tracker." All in one! And only $8700 for a 1970 CB350 that has been hacked to pieces, is missing front and rear fenders without a fork brace, shitty pods on CV carbs, a seat hoop that looks like the rear tire will hit it, and, of course, non-functional shitty tires.

That piece of shit is literally a death trap.

Where did you get the $8700 figure from?

So let me get this straight...

This thread is for people to go and search CL for poorly built home projects, reach out to them and fill them in on how they fucked up... then post the results here in the hopes of getting a pat on the back?

Apparently the builder is right

More in the hopes of preventing something stupid from happening, but you've gone and mucked that up. You're uncanny, Tuna.

No pun? You do seem to spend a lot of time cruising CL for this stuff.

Listen man... this motorcycle tinkering has been going on for over a hundred years and back then nothing was safe, we tinker on and ride machines with two wheels, no safety equipment out in the open with heavy metal boxes doing all they can to slam into us... let the fucker have his little dream and stop thinking you are the one and only justice of the two wheel rule. Ever since I came on here you have done no more than whine about race baiting and bash CL bike builds for workmanship or just do not meet your standards... grow up man, everyone is different and like different things, look at 40 inch ape hangers... fuckin idiots but what ever floats there boat sure seems a lot of people like em, damn Ace bikes are death waiting to happen but those dudes are having a blast!!.

Life is far to short to police what others do, spend that time doing what you enjoy, be productive not destructive. Go design a seat belt and child restraint for a motorcycle man

Your turn... I am aware of my ability to be an asshole, it's a given... my wife reminds me when I start to forget so you can leave that out... ???

Tuna, it's kind of the point of the thread. Chicken isn't alone in his bashing. I'd say if you don't care for it, stay away from the thread. Some of the nitpicking drives me nuts too but I stay because sometimes cool stuff pops up. Cheers.
