  • I spent about 20 hours building a plug for afiberglass glove box replacement for the boat over the last few weeks/ Built from fiberboard, then filler, then paint, then buff, then wax. Finally got to lay the fiberglass yesterday.

  • Once I get the Metal Rescue out I'll give the tank a rinse out in the bath.  It's been a while since the missus gave me a bollocking for messing her bathroom so it's about time
  • Feb 02, 2018, 15:48:50
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I use a length of sharp-edged chain (about 12ft) with some fishing line tied around my finger - this knocks all the loose rust off and the chain is easy to get out after
  • Feb 02, 2018, 15:47:41
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Nice one, I'll do exactly that.  I used Metal Rescue on the CB tank and it worked wonders, ditto this KLR tank.  I'll certainly be keeping whatever I don't pour all over my trousers

  • It is fish oil so yep it does.

  • I like using a tsp of gas and a capful of 2stroke oil, swish it around and leave the rest

  • Yeah I did the BB thing.. took forever to get all the BB's out

  • you can put some screws in there and shake it atound to help too, but count them and make sure you get them all back out
  • Feb 02, 2018, 15:03:33
  • Maritime:
  • Jim, metal rescue is re-usable so keep it. rinse with water after, then put a hair dryer over the opening and let it dry the tank then wd-40 or 2 stroke oil in it will prevent flash rust.
  • Feb 02, 2018, 15:01:51
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Seems a bit counter-intuitive to pour water in there but there's so much loose rust now that I gotta take steps...
  • Feb 02, 2018, 15:01:00
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Question from leftfield - I'm in the process of getting all the rust out of my tank, and right now I have 2 gallons of Metal Rescue and rust slurry in there.  I can drain it out but the thing'll need a good rinse out.  Can I rinse it out with water if I pour in a bunch of WD40 once its dry to prevent it rusting again?
