  • Just got the trailer inspected and it cost me 192 bucks because it needed a tire, oh well better now than half way to NH LOL. I then looked at the sticker on my CRV and inspections been expired since June. Have to see if I can get it squeezed in.

  • Aug 04, 2017, 08:24:18
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Thanks man, that's excellent - hoping to take them both for a ride in the next few days and I'll definitely keep those things in mind
  • Aug 03, 2017, 21:53:23
  • cxman:
  • cb900 listen carefuly for any knocking near the left front side cover they have a bad habit of the starter clutch bolts loosening not a biggy to fix but long term it can cause damage
  • Aug 03, 2017, 17:34:55
  • cxman:
  • as far as 1100 s go if you are going to highway ride find a 83 its the best of the lot
  • Aug 03, 2017, 17:33:50
  • The Jimbonaut:

  • Maritime:
  • Cool. good luck. and I have driven from VT into MTL and I would agree that's some nice area
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:50:00
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Got a few different Honda models lined up - might see if I an get to see some of them tomorrow.  One (the CB900) is down by the Vermont border and any excuse to take a ride down that way is a good one, and the GL is kinda on the way
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:48:41
  • Maritime:
  • I habe done 2 sets of belts on my bike since I have owned it and need to do them again this winter
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:46:47
  • Maritime:
  • belts are cheap and if you go to NGWclub.com and sign up they have a step by step turorial you can follow and get it done easily
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:46:13
  • Maritime:
  • Unless he knows exactly when they were changed, just put a new set and start your own 4 year cycle, a broken belt is the one thing that will grenade these motors
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:45:30
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Roger that
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:41:37
  • Kamn:
  • just need to find out when the timing belt was last done, as for any other no no's for GL's maybe ask CXman
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:38:17
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • good gl info man, any way to check the belts when I go to look at the bike?  What to look for?  Anything else that I should look for, any major tells of a no-no specific to a gl?
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:32:33
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • bushel of apples...crispy
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:30:06
  • Kamn:
  • Think Im gonna have to drop the price on the GPZ to get it sold
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:25:19
  • Kamn:
  • Allright, got a bushel of apples ready for the feeder area and need another bag of corn.....need to keep them deer coming around
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:22:32
  • Maritime:
  • I also brok the Stator bolt which only cost me 35 bucks to replace for the bolt and a gasket for another 25 or so but I ended up having to pull the motor, that is fun, I did it all in a 8x10 shed LOL
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:21:16
  • Maritime:
  • Oh and the $1K the first time was for tires ($300), belts($100), coolant, oil, points, handle bars, grips, mirrors, blikers, tail light, headlight, new seat cover in leather, replacement pipes, and eventually head gaskets after about 50K KM's of riding
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:19:32
  • Maritime:
  • But from the first day I never had to touch the carbs which is a blessing, I store her correct in the fall and ride her at least once a week all season to keep the carbs happy, if I won't be riding I drain the carbs and usually used stablized gas as well if she will sit for longer than 2 weeks
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:15:26
  • Maritime:
  • Actually my new MSR dual sport boots have a lip that I use to shift, works great, Shifted the GS1200 BMW just fine. I bought my GL for 1K and put 1K into to get it on the road the first time, so 2k was my total investment, I had to put another 1500 or so to get it rebuilt after the deer hit me
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:13:42
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Brother, damn - just had a quick look through your GL build thread.  Guess if you gotta get smoked by a deer on a bike, you could do worse than that bike being a goldwing.  Those metal plates in your boots so you can change gear - kudos my man
  • Aug 03, 2017, 16:00:13
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • That 2K - is that what the bike's worth, or the money you've invested in it?
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:54:14
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Cool man, that doesn't sound like a huge to-do list by any means
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:53:34
  • Maritime:
  • The 80 would also need a fork brace as I put an 80 front end on mine and it needed it bad
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:38:29
  • Maritime:
  • Basically when you get one new to you you do the timing belts, flush and fill the coolant, change the oil and clean the carbs and it will run for the rest of your life, doing the timing belts every 4 years
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:37:40
  • Maritime:
  • There are a couple of good build threads here of 1100 and CXMan puts them back on the road all the time
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:36:19
  • Maritime:
  • Also Jimbo the 80 GL could be a great bike and they are easy as hell to work on but if they need certian parts or things done that can be expensive. I have $2000  CAD in my 79 GL1000 and I have no issues riding the thing from one side of the country to the other
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:35:11
  • Kamn:
  • no idea but cant see how extra cc's would hurt
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:24:08
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I see.  Holy gear options.  The Wiseco kit is a good addition?
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:13:47
  • Kamn:
  • 5 gears but another "outer" gear to give you a high or low version of the 5 gears
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:12:03
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • Somehow they've got ten gears crammed in there, that sounds like exactly 5 more than I think I'll need but it's all good.  Bike sure is shiny, yeah the seat might be a bit of a monster but some new bars, shorter fenders and, well, damn
  • Aug 03, 2017, 15:08:29
  • Kamn:
  • thats awesome
  • Aug 03, 2017, 14:27:41
  • Maritime:
  • Yep Hi low gear because they had to put a jack shaft in to comnnect the drive and thought, why not
  • Aug 03, 2017, 14:25:34
  • Kamn:
  • Don't those cb customs have the hi/low gear?
  • Aug 03, 2017, 14:24:39
  • Kamn:
  • thats an awesome price and I think I read that it has a wiseco 1000cc kit in it
  • Aug 03, 2017, 14:24:18
  • advCo:
  • Nicest looking ugly bike ive seen in a while.
  • Aug 03, 2017, 13:56:59
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • He just wants to sell to someone who's gonna keep it original, can't say I blame him
  • Aug 03, 2017, 13:38:45
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • This CB900 is a beauty too - [link] - one owner, spoke to him yesterday, exactly the kind of gent you want to buy a bike from
  • Aug 03, 2017, 13:38:07
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • I think it must be hereditary - my old man's been in the car business for all his life (he used to race too - a Lotus like Jim Clark's back in the day).  I'm on kijiji more than is healthy but just. can't. look. away.
  • Aug 03, 2017, 13:36:43
  • Kamn:
  • looks like you have the bike buying disease as well
  • Aug 03, 2017, 13:27:19
  • The Jimbonaut:
  • And yeah, need to get my clutch sorted out before eyeing the next prize I guess
