  • Nick, if the boots are cracked, Matt (Sonrier) sells a self fusing tape I have used many times to repair boots, wrap it around it fuses into one solid piece of silicone and is fuel stable etc. WAY cheaper and easier than new boots

  • Sep 12, 2018, 16:25:00
  • Maritime:
  • nope, wiring diagram shows its a carb heater? huh, that's a new one for me
  • Sep 12, 2018, 16:21:07
  • Maritime:
  • anyway the carb has that and a thermal sensor I believe for an overheat warning light.
  • Sep 12, 2018, 16:18:44
  • Maritime:
  • if it was failed I wonder which way to ends up? If closed it would make cold starts hard, if open it would make it rich after warmed up
  • Sep 12, 2018, 16:15:11
  • advCo:
  • Yep same as the VWs
  • Sep 12, 2018, 16:06:33
  • Maritime:
  • Yep I think that is the test. Its a black box with a needle valve that is retracted when cold and pushes down to close the valve when warm.
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:51:57
  • advCo:
  • If its the kind of electric choke I'm thinking of
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:34:14
  • advCo:
  • You should be able to warm it up then unplug the wire to the electric choke to see if its staying closed when the engine is hot
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:30:53
  • Maritime:
  • although it has a testing procedure in the manual so can at least figure out if it is broken if we do have issues
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:27:40
  • Maritime:
  • The only thing that might give us some grief is the electric choke. never seen or used a carb with one of those before
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:26:37
  • Maritime:
  • also being a genuine mikuni VM makes it likely to work
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:25:36
  • Maritime:
  • remembering Irk posting the mikuni carb tunig manual got me the idea to search it and I now have the how to set the carb for idle and exceleration instructions printed to take home ;D
  • Sep 12, 2018, 15:25:07
